Last month i posted a reply to a thread all about the "Worst Duty at Work..."
I mentioned that i rescued a goanna last month. Well today i found a long neck turtle in a dewatering pump when we pulled it out of the pit. Lucky the pump was off because it wouldnt of lasted long if the pumps impeller was spinning. Anyways i got a few pics of it and i was amazed at the length of its neck its unbelivable how the hell are they sposed to pull there heads into there shells? |

I've worked in volunteer animal rescue for years. It's pretty funny some of the places that little critters will get. Under beds, in roofs, car engine bays, etc.
Did the tortoise pee when you picked it up? They have a gland that secretes an 'onion' smell into their urine when they are stressed. I can't explain how bad it smells. I have picked a few up without thinking and had them spray all over my clothes. We get a lot of them out our way that wander out of farm dams and onto the road after rain. Some dickheads purposely run them over. |

They are so cute! Oh yes, and their urine does stink. We found one in the middle of a back road btwn Rylestone and Mudgee (in NSW) many years ago. Our friend picked it up to move it off the road, it took a **** all over him, and we had to put up with the stench till we reached Mudgee
Also last summer we went swimming in our favourite watering hole when up popped a snake's head and I screamed for everyone to get out NOW! We all vacated the water till my hubby pointed out it was a tortoise. e
