And who said big bodykits and silly stickers were a ricers domain, this proves they've been around for years. Tim! |

Welcome to the wonderful world of the 1970's. When compared to the flared jeans worn with turtle necked skivvies in this era, & the copious quantities of free love & drugs consumed by many during this time frame. These 'monza' front end inspireddesigns are actually quite subtle.
Interesting sidenote -Both of these front end designs appear to be based upon FACTORY concept designs!!!(Can really see Holden/Ford displaying radical kits like that THESE days) The frontend shown on the falcons was 1st shown at the 1977 Melbourne motorshow on the 'Concord' concept Van on the Ford stand. The Holden front, looks to be based upon one of the holden concept vehicles from the time too (GTR-X??) Ive handled the pics but cant pin the exact name of the concept down atm(was a whiles back) |

Didn't Peter Arcadipane move onto Mercedes-Benz as a top designer? I remember seeing that last one on the cover of my dad's old street machine (van wheels) cover. I guess they thought it was futuristic and tough back then, how times change.

and the Mad Max car was based on an arcadipane front end... I like the falcon one, personally - there's a silver panel van in QLD with that nose cone, and it's HOT!

having been around in the late 70s ( sob !! ) I can assure you that they weren't as prevalant as the ricer crap we have now. In fact, I can't remember one at all. It's a sad indictment that in the fashion disaster that was the 70s, they didn't really go for ricer type stuff ... and they do now.

Here's another piccy of the Concorde van :evilsasmo
The 70s are quite interesting... The Firebird or whatever its called in Running On Empty always makes me go "WTF?!?" whenever I see its wing (it's in the background of a scene for 2 secs just before the XY fails to do a Fast & Furious "under the truck" manouver) -Dave- |

I can remember when they were feral, instant halved resale value.
Most were installed by the bored senseless at the caravan park, and fitted using a wheel brace and butter knife. Spray putty was the preferred finish. |

Ahh, the 70's. The time that fashion forgot.
Yes in a way it resembles the rice we have to put up with today but then the culture was different back then as well. One of the reasons I joined the Navy, so I wouldn't lose the trend of wearing flares. :disco:

Isn't there a black one in a magazine advertisement for cleaning products or oil or something?? Looks tough and ugly, but overdone.

Goose: Shut the gate on this one Maxie, it's the Ducks Guts......
Mechanic: It's got Twin Overhead Cams, Phase IV Heads, 600 hp through the wheels...... Goose: He loves it! Mechanic: He's in a Coma Man! Goose: You've seen it, you've heard it, and your still asking questions? Max: When do we go for a ride! Fifi: I think we've got him. Labatouche: Our top Pursuit Man wants to quit the Road and we have to seduce him with Candy! Fifi: People don't believe in Heros any more! Labatouche: I know Fifi, you wanna give 'em back their Heros. You will not try this one on me again. Good bye, and good luck. Fifi: Thanks Labatouche, your a real human being.
