Default Stealing fuel...

I just watched on the news a peice about the sudden jump in fuel thefts from servo's I had a little laugh because they had a bit of footage where you could see the front of a car which looked a bit like an ea, the passenger filled the car up and when the attendant walked out the guy started to walk in as if to pay. Then when the attendant was almost iside, he turned around and jumped in and the car took off. What made me laugh was it was a Vn! I was kinda hoping it wasn't a ford.

But yeah they were saying that for every 50l of fuel stolen they need to sell another 5000l to make up the money.

I thought E-Series Fords all came with a push-button fuel cap opener (next to the boot opener)? Or is this only an option?

Another bonus about LPG.. they can't steal fuel from your car when its stationary. Cheaper, higher octane, cleaner... the list goes on and on. Gotta love BBQ fuel!

Yep, nothing like a good BBQ. At least it's easier to get is out of a burner under a plate than out of a mixer.

Does happen unfortunately. I know all the servos here just call the cops, write the plate down and if the car is stupid enough to come back they get bailed up so they cant possibly leave again.

i dont think we're quite at the stage of seeing anybody stealing fuel from parked cars, either way the flap on the focus can only be opened with the key :voldar02: .

Most of the servo runers are done with stolen plates, losing plates is not uncommon in Sydney, worse if the runner is done with a sime type and coloured care, worst still if the plates are returned after said servo runner.

As for fuel from parked cars, anyone remeber the 80's fuel strikes.. locking caps didn't help.. And more than the odd parked XD had its plastic tanked drilled for a drum of tapped super.

Was going to say the same thing ... I love BBQ fuel ... my fiancee wishes that she could get it on the Territory ... damn it costs a bit to fill that tank compared to mine.

Uh Uh, next time you fill up, you pay for it. Next time you buy a bottle of Coke and bag of chips with your fuel, you pay for it.

Owning a car is expensive, yet I still manage to pay my rego, pay for my licence and pay for my fuel, but whilst I am doing that I am subsidising all of the others out there who don't. Basically, its just selfish, and anyone caught should get in the <beep> for it.

i've done that before.

Only because the stupid ***** at the servo didn't press the right buttons and I didn't (nor do I usually) check the amount on the EFT handset... So I only paid for my chips and a drink...

I'm a regular tho so he just waited till I was in next (only shell in town and optimax here s on bp ultimate)

In that instance, the servo deserves to lose the fuel. What sort of moron console attendent would authorise the pump when the dude's face is obviously being hidden and there was duct tape over the number plate? Surely they would have made him go in and pre-pay first!

NZ..I saw it on TT.

I laughed for the opposite reason. Both instances taht where caught on tape were commy's; one VN and one VS..hahahaha Its not helping their stereotype!

I reakon half the time some people just forget to pay. But that one where he follows the attendant back then does a runner was funny.

Problem is these silly buggers should realise that servo's are full of camera's. Did I mention VN and VS...lol!

Or are they? Half the time they're not working at a particular petrol station I know of.

The guy with the balaclava on should not have been authorised, that was just sheer stupidity on behalf of the console operator. :

No fuel cap opener in my EB, god knows I looked when I first bought it. Maybe in the later E-Series.

I have one on my EA... I push a button on the dash and it clicks open. But also we're on both LPG and petrol so I'd like to see them try and steal the $10 we have in the tank as backup fuel...

Once I filled up with petrol and my hubby went inside to buy some drinks. I thought he'd gone inside to pay for it and I just jumped in and drove off when he got back in... we got around the corner and we each asked the other who'd paid for the petrol.

I felt so guilty! But I couldn't turn around as we were late for an appointment. I always meant to go back and pay for it but never got around to it, then got too embarrassed to walk up and say "Oh I forgot to pay for petrol" years later!

Dave thats why we have the little finger hole thing in the flap - its for the pov models without the solinoid release. My mates ed had it, pretty sure he had a locking cap tho

yeah the early pov models didn't get the fuel cap opener button.. it just pulls open. and i'm sure a crowbar or big screwdriver would easily open the fuel flap if someone wanted your petrol. locking fuel cap will at least make me feel a bit safer... $70 for a full tank of fuel.. i don't want it stolen!
