Just got my XR6

I picked up my 04 BA XR6 last week. :1syellow1 DAMM is it mad. Its a manual so it will take me a week or 2 to get use to driving it but so far i'm loving it. Its not quite as good a ride as My dads GT-P but not to bad for an 18 yr old. Now i can just blast past my mates and there Holdens.

I'm sure it wont take a few weeks to get used to driving it, happy and safe driving

How does a 18 y/o get insurance and the dosh to pay for these machines?
can some one tell me please and ill have 10kgs of it!!!!!
oh well my EL is old and wise and is still fit enough to play !!!

I do prefer the manuals myself as well. Like to have the feeling that I'm driving the car & not feeling like I'm in auto-pilot mode like you get with the Autos.

Heres to safe driving and preserving those licence points! And the old bank account too. :eclipsee_

The Car is Mettalic Green and as for affording it. I can tell you i am not doing it easily lets just say i will be poor for the next 5 years but it is worth it. I am taking some pics this weekend and will post them one monday. Insurance was a bastard cost 2400. and it is costing me 690 a month for the car. As i said but it is worth it to have my mates that drive holden Drolling over it.

I especially like it when you take someone for a drive in it for the first time and when you are in second gear you just flat it and put them right back i there seat

Congrats on the new ride Nashy and look forward to seeing some pics of it. Insurance for young fella's these days is a real killer, My first car at 17 (euro escort) was around the same figure as your premium, anyway enjoy!

Congrats dude and 18, woahh, good stuff dude. Best I ever did at that age was a 1978 XC GS Hardtop....lol. Ahh, the memmories. Been hooked on the Blue Oval ever since and probably will not change.

: I'm only a newbie but may spend more time here. "Change of scenery so to speak".

The 5 speed, yeah it takes a bit of getting used to, mainly 2nd to 3rd but it will be 2nd nature in no time dude. Kinda wishing I went for a new MAGNET Mandarin ute at the time, just for the 6 speed. They feel 'just right', for me anyway.

p.s. It is N/A or TURBO? I had a Jan 03 233kwfw Phantom NA (Known as GIMLI), work done at RDP (the prototype for the Barra 182 kit actually) and boy oh boy, the punch it had, the note, ahh, pure heaven. Getting the ute modded soon too.

It's not a turbo Insurance would kill me if i got one of them. Wouldn't mind one though but this is plenty quick for me

Well done Nashy welcome to the Ford fold. I couldn't even afford to run my car - XW wagon with a 221ci 6 cyl at age 18. My stingey boss used to call me the "temporary surveyor" cos I used to ride my 370 trail bike to work to save on fuel. Don't choose surveying for a career if you love performance Fords.

the manual must make a huge difference i test drove a BA XR6 today and i didnt like it for some reason (must of been the auto) oh well they invited me back tomorrow to have a go at the TURBO ....yeah yeah bring it

The sales man also said he sold 150 XR's in the last year and only 10 of em were manuals........ man are they going to be hard to find in the second hand market.

I just got my slightly used Black BA MKII XR6 sedan today. It is INCREDIBLE!

It is a semi-automatic, I would have loved a manual but as you say, they are very hard to come by. Manuals are fun to drive but harder to re-sell when the time comes to upgade. Did you try playing with it in semi-automatic mode?

It goes great in full auto mode (I will probably use this mode for normal driving) but when you want to have some fun, the manual mode works a treat. I was even changing down as I was coming to the lights (saving my brakes). The semi-automatic (IMHO) is the best of both worlds.

Thanks Noddy, extremely glad to be here. I will post some pics once I have given it a polish. It looks as if the previous owner didn't maintain the paintwork, but I am sure it will come up magic with a little TLC. It looks good now but I know it can be better.

By the way any recommendations for shampoos, polishes etc?
