Default VN group A vs ED sprint

do you think a VN SS Group A, 220kw, six spd manual, twin throttle bodies and apperently almost indestructable, would beat a ED sprint

Yep absolutely. Sprints are good, but they're not that good.

I have to admit if i had a choice out of any ford before the BA GT or a VN Group A SS,
i would definately go the Group A SS. I read somwhere that they casted special blocks for them that are tough as and all the engine internals and gear box and driveline are just unbreakable aLSO THEY f****n fly

Its still a VN commodore, probably the worst commodore ever produced.

Yep thats exactly right.

I've never liked VNs although the V8s tickle my fancy. :1syellow1

But in general I dont like VNs as they look like a boat on wheels.

The group A was only 215 kw 5.0 litre
the sprint had more torque though.

However I have a VN Group A and i think mine will beat any Sprint you give it out:

Holden Commodore SS Group A VN
5.0litre (4987cc) OHV 16-valve V8
215kW @ 5200rpm
411Nm @ 4000rpm
Six-Speed Manual, 3.45:1 final drive

Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint ED
5.0litre (4942cc) OHV 16-valve V8
195kW @ 5000rpm
415Nm @ 4000rpm
Five-Speed Manual or Four-Speed Automatic
3.27:1 final drive manual, 3.45:! final drive auto

It would be close. Probably come down to the driver more then anything else.

well to be honest I have not raced it as I have a drag car,
It was my daily driver, that just got out of hand.
But I do still drive it a fair bit, and enjoy it that way.

a Group A should average a tad below 20L/100km. According to Martin Hayden, that figure is a worst scenario - his experience of the car at highway speeds is 11-12L/100km.

the Group A had a theoretical top speed of 414km/h but was never timed at more than 253km/h.

It would be nice to see what MPH it would pull over 400, it's an awsome daily driver, do you think the drive train would stand up too a race start ?

I remember the VN Group A , I dont recall it being a SS, I thought it was a VN HSV GROUP A Commodore.

Anyway I dont know which would win in a drag race prob the holden but I know which is the nicer car and unfortunately it aint the Ford.

IMHO, the VN Group A was a car that stopped you in the street and made you stare at it as it went by and along with all the internal goodies it had made it a very tough car for its day.
I think they were like $60,000 in 1990.

You must be thinking of the SV5000. A Calais spec HSV but still with 215kw I think.

Those VNs would be one of a few 'V' series Holdens I'd spend my hard earned on. Awesome cars, what else with 4 doors from 1990 could touch it? Bugger all.
