Hi, apologies if this is in the wrong bit.
I Urgently need my XR6 Ute tuned, it's an AU1 and runs poorly. Can anyone recommend a shop near me (frankston, vic) that can dyno tune the ute before heathcote? BTW: I'm not interested in an EDIT yet. Cant afford it! |

You cant actually "tune" the AU's. The ECU is "Self tuning" so without some sort of chip/edit theres very little that can be done.
Have you reset the ecu yet?

The edit probably won't help if there is something wrong with engine, elec etc. What does running poorly mean exactly?

disconnect the battery for an hour, then reconnect and go through the ecu setting process on aufalcon... then make a decision.

...and if it's still rough, take it to a Ford deaerl, or someone who can read the fault codes from the eCU. You might have a faulty sensor, etc that the computer has diagnosed as a problem.

1) crap fuel economy - 350k per tank is not good enough after intake mods. used to get 500.
2) real slow take off, slower than i recall it being. i suppose it's ok, mainly worried about the fuel economy and the slooow take off. will try to reset the ECU and see what happens. Thanks Casper, Samantha and DeathXR |

sounds oh so familier... do what DeathXR said, get the faults read asap... I'm betting MAP sensor is fried.

Being self tuning, it will be most likely a component that has failed
You could also check any leads, throttle body, wires or sensors as casper said for any obvious damage, may save a bit of time and $$ at the workshop. |

it measures the air coming into the engine and adjusts the fuel accordingly. If its dead you will be running very rich on the default maps in the ECU and have loss of power and heaps of fuel usage.
MAP sensor is a little over $100 I think. Bugger to fit though

Map sensor measures manifold vacuum, the harder you accelerate the less vacuum so it senses this and the computer knows to increase injector duration. A faulty map sensor can cause the motor to run too rich or too lean, depending on what signal (if any) it is giving out.
Most good workshops have scan tools that can read the codes, you do not really have to go back to just a dealer. Not all problems will show as a trouble code.

The O2 sensor is basically a voltage generator, but it creates a voltage according to how much O2 is present in the exhaust gases, the leaner the mixture the less voltage it produces, but it is not foolproof, a lean missfire could sometimes show as a too rich (high voltage) due to unburnt fuel going through the exhaust.

Just a quick question so when i got my chip done the first tme and the car rang simular to au ^ute then got charged $300 to get the thing back to where it was before i had the chip done would that mean that my map sensor is fooked too or is it the fact that people cant tune cars right.

Just ignore the dyno numbers... they are both pointless and irrelevant. What you run today will not be what you run tomorrow.. what you run on one dyno will not be the same as you run on another dyno 10 minutes later. If you want an indication of power they are fine.. do a run, do the mod or add the chip, do another run. Compare the lines (ignore the numbers). Run 2 should be better. look for odd flatspots or dips.. try and fix. Thats the end of the use of a dyno.
If you want to know what it can really do in the real world.... take it to the track.

If you just want a dyno read out
In Frankston you could try APS LRH Ultratune Chevs (carrum downs) Auto gas connection (Carrum downs) Theres probably more, but the above list all have dyno's although none have the soft ware to adjust your computer
