Default Value for money. R.I.P. My market sunnies

A quick heads up to anyone down Melbourne way in and around the Caribbean Market area (Stud Rd and Ferntree Gully rd).

If you're ever after a cheap pair of sunnies, the Market is the place to go. I bought a pair of sunnies there close to 18 months ago for $8. That's right, $8. They've bounced around in my glovebox, fallen from the passenger seat onto the floor and rolled around in transit. They've been thrown into my work bag, across the room, and even headbutted the car roof on three seperate occassions when I went to 'adjust myself' and didn't realise just how close I was to the roof while they were ontop of my head.

I've bent and twisted the frame, trying to get them tight enough on my head to keep from sliding down onto my face anytime I looked down.

Quote:

Just a moment ago, while reaching into a half-full slab box to pick them out (the end of the handle caught on the cardboard six-pack casing), the frame snapped.

Finally!

God damn, I got my moneys worth! Only problem being, the market was on yesterday and I'm working on Wednesday, so I'm gonna have to wait until next Sunday to get a new pair, or pick up a servo pair at some stage before then.

But let's be honest here, $8? I haven't seen value like that since way back in the day when those big, original Wagon Wheels (which are back to being big again) used to be like 50 cents.

Hmmm... I wonder if my sunnies are fixable. :thebirds:

I don't know, that's a quarter of what I paid for the sunnies themselves.

Perhaps I'll find someone with some slops left in the tube that they're willing to part with.

I used to distribute the things from a warehouse to retail outlets. Lol, minimum markup on brand name stuff at least 200... i.e. buy them for $100, sell them for $250 - and they were the low margin products.

Having said that, we used to get an $800 allowance every year so i developed a fetish for expensive sunnies... also developed a frightening lack of interest when breaking/losing a $300 pair...

Altho you notice the difference between cheapies and brand names when you understand all the differences in lenses etc... but a lot pay way too much for the frame...

Lol, top story tho woz. did you say $8??

That's a bit like my brother, he spent $300-400 on his most recent pair of sunnies, and the pair before that were worth roughly the same. But he's the same brother that laughs at me spending x amount on Unichips, new wheels etc etc. Each to their own! :

i payed $300 for mine (my 3rd set of them) they've lasted me 3 years and have been through hell... including getting thrown into the trees out camping and crashing around in the tray of a hilux for a few hours with logs and crap in there, might need a new set of lenses though...

Cheapies rock!!

My last pair cost me $10 from Dandenong Market and lasted me almost 2 years. And I was quite rough with them. Always thrown around in my bag, in the car and so on. Never had a better pair and never been able to find the same ones since.

Well I recently shelled out $300 for a pair of designer sunglasses and I love them... I thought this was cheap as considering that included getting prescription lenses put into them...

I just don't think its a good idea to scrimp on sunglasses because you need to make sure your eyes are protected from the sun by the best quality lenses that you can afford.

But then again maybe I am just jealous that I can't get away with cheapies...

Can be found at the Carribean Market for $20 at last sighting.

Mate, the story was posted up for a bit of humour. The sunnies were bought because my last pair, which cost slightly more, fell off my head as I stuck my face out the car window and were run over by a 4WD on the way to Phillip Island the weekend before.

They fell off my head, we went up to the first side street and turned off, did a u-turn and came back. Pulled over and got out of the car just in time to see a silver fourby run over them. By the time I was back in the car and my mate had found a big enough gap in traffic to do another u-turn and head back the way we were originally heading, it was all over red rover.

Was that the same weekend your avatar picture was taken or do you make a habit of sticking your head out of car windows whilst in transit?

Lost my sunnies on the way there one weekend, took the photo on the way back the next weekend. Lost the sunnies talking on walkie-talkies to a mate in the car behind us, popped my head only just outside the window to look behind us (barely enough room in the back of a Ford Lazer with three people in the backseat to turn towards the center of the car to look out the windscreen) to see the stuffed toy they'd gaffa-taped to the bonnet of my mates Pintara wagon. Took the photo the next sunday (in the days when we went to Phillip Island every weekend) just as a joke, talking about cartoons and stuff. I'm not often found protruding from windows (remember the war-veteran on the Simpsons who lost his arm while hanging it from the school bus window? I learnt it was foolish through that, as a young bloke), but it happened twice then.

I paid $200 for a Set of Diesel Sunnies a year ago. I did it to prove a point: That I COULD look after a pair of expensive sunnies (My track record with cheapies is BAD BAD BAD!!), SO I got them, Loved them , cared for them, had them for about 10 months, setting the record for Danny's length of sunnie ownership. Then I hugged someone A few months ago.....Too Bad they were hanging off my collar.

SChnee Shnay Schnappi. Snap, snap snap. Goodbye Diesels.. they wre the best suiting and most comfortable pair of sunnies I ever had.
The story has a happy ending though. I eneded up getting the same pair AGAIN (I loved them that much) just last week, but in a different colour, a COOLer colour (lol). AND best yet, for $75 bucks less that what the original ones cost me. Long live my new sunnies!!!

I think the moral here is to be aware that even a brief lapse in concentration while performing a hug can cause things to go horribly pear-shaped in an instant. Keep your wits about you when performing potentially dangerous hugging manouvres and never in public

I bought some Ray Bans about a year ago for around 2 hunjy. These have been worn every day since and there still reasonably new. They've been sat on, thrown, dropped, kicked, in a pocket with keys, banged against(saved me eyes a few times). Once I was running for the train doors and they fell off my head, was kicked reasonably hard and smashed into the side of the train, down the gap. Since it was peak hour at night I left them there and came back on the next day. I came back with a garden rake, scooped them up, not a scratch.

One of the best purcahses I;ve made
