Default Ford Spare Parts

I had to laugh this afternoon, I checked my email and found a quote for a Au2/3 220kw spec 70mm tickford throtle body. I was thinking maybe paying a bit extra and getting that instead of the edlebrock item. But I can say for sure now that idea is completely out the window.
These little puppies come in at the slight sum of $1893.29 INC G.S.T. + frieght "VS" The edelbrock @ $380

Just had to share that one as it is the most unbelievable quote I have ever gotten from ford and i have had some rippers.
Pursuit 250 kit $6 - 7k
Pursuit250 tailshaft 4.5k

Thats my little bit of useless information for the day

Ford know how to charge sometimes ... but then there's other items that they are dirt cheap on too.

Must be exclusive parts that they "know" they can rort you on.

I think its more a case of stopping people buying certain parts to keep them exclusive. How many people would ever need to replace a TB, its not something that would ever break. More people would buy them who want to fit them onto their XR8's.

Being a reformed Ford Parts Interperter...... if you think any of those prices are bad....
Ask for a price on major part for any of the following :

Transh*t Van (try $11,000 for an Epic(fuel) pump)
Telstar V6
Mongayo
Explorer V6 or V8

Yes the prices are a "little" extreme.... try being the bloke that get to tell the customer what Ford are asking...
I know I had my share of death threats! :

Yeah Hoops filled me in on the joy of hearing that stupid price tonight. $1400 or some thing I think he said and ended up getting it fixed for $250

And I forgot the Au V8 leads at $350 a bank eg $700 a set VS $200 for aftermarket Hi-performance leads (That dont arch out from factory)

$80 for a BA ford manual. And you used to be able to download them from myford.com.au. Although I did need the stamped warranty booklet. Still highway robbery!

$140 for a cruise control cable, and $70 for a throttle cable. The wreckers want about $25 for each

How about $800 for a AU 3 Message Display Centre ?. Got it fixed for $100.
Fiesta Wiper Blades $74 a pair. $19 from Supercheap auto.
The usual story that dealers have to keep parts in stock for 10 years etc, is why they gouge, so much.

EA/EB engine mounts, about $2 cheaper (ea) from ford compared to REPCO, and repco only sell nolathane ones compared to the Ford rubber ones.

My local ford dealer also do's all the hyundai stuff, last year the wifes little '97 excel dropped the gearbox. Ford were asking $1800 for a new gearbox and front drive assay. Problem was the excel had over 245,000k on the clock and was very very tired. So i sourced another motor, gearbox, front diff complete with cv's and shocks & computer for $1690. with only 69,000k on it. But alas ford still wanted $1100-$1500 to fit it seems that the old engine was a sohc and the new was a dohc the whole wiring loom under the dash had to be removed and relaced with a dohc one.

$1200+ for BA/BF sports steering wheel, Fairmont Ghia version with woodgrain top and bottom is same price. From memory, dealer cost from Ford is around $600. I bought one off eBay for $150....brand-new-in-the-box, genuine Ford part.

BF 6 speed auto box is around $8500.

My Ford dealer does not stock the genuine brake pad for my Ford Escape.
The non genuine one they sold and fitted was $55.00
The genuine brake pads are $285.00

i demand you tell me how you got the discount!

I want the LTD leather wheel, which is the FPV shape but with the top and bottom sections in dark marble (looks better than the woodgrain in my opinion), and i've seen it on ebay for $190, which is still a damn good price! The cheapest i've seen the FPV wheel is around $650 - and i can't justify the extra $460 just for two more bits of leather.

Mate how did you get the price ??

Brother in-law just had to replace one of his BA 18" XR8 rims. Only place we could find one that matched was from ford at a cost of $750 or thereabouts. Rubber was another $300 odd on top.

Was working on a mate's missus' Corolla in the mid 90's cause it had a preference for running on only 3 cylinders - can't remember which model.
Turned out to be a stuffed plug lead, but all 4 leads and the dizzy cap were molded as one.
Toyota wanted nearly $300 for that little scam, whereas replacing the lot with 4 aftermarket leads and cap came to just under $200

I'm guessing he meant the new BF 18's by 'current model'.. could be wrong ? I've seen no copies of the BF 18's, i'm not a big fan of them - i'm guessing Ford will have something special to replace them for the MKII BF, i reckon the BF 17's look better than the 18's :P

Just search on ebay, i've seen 4 x BA 18" copies with tyres for $1400ish.. the BF copies shouldn't be far away..

Got my leads replaced under warranty the other day, Ford quoted them as LPG specific Motorcraft and the going price was $79 on the sheet. Luckily they had to pay .

Aftermarket 10mm Top Gun leads, $110.

All car companies overcharge for parts.

If its any consolation Toyota are probably worse, ive actually heard Holden are better though.

Some of the prices are rediculous, guess it keeps the Automotive wreakers in business though.

Go get a price for a headlight for a BMW (older style), and not the whole assembly, just the globe - lol. You might be a little surprised!
