had a prang on the 1st april (not a joke) car got towed went to panel shop no 1 rang RACV told them all details they dont use yard 1 so it has to be towed to yard 2.
spoke to ##@###@ on phone after 38 minutes wait on there top cover assist line as I get a loan car under my insurance and I was stuck in melbourne oops cannot get car as I dont have a credit card (told by ##@###@ on phone that I should get one as people now days need to have one) even though the car is supplied under my insurance, so a taxi back to Ballarat. had a note put on the claim that I wanted to retain the wreck new motor beefed C4 new 235's and 215's just had the diff recoed 2 days B4 ###@##$#@ on the phone says yes thats not a problem. as from what you have told me you are at fault (even though the trailer that was behind my car is a write off from being hit). so $450 excess. so it gets moved to shop 2 so it can be assesed, thats fine, told it will be assesed on the 5/4/06 heaps of calls by me during the last 2 weeks today now to be now told we cannot find the car GREAT. Then i get a return call from them ( the only one )"oh the car is now at pickles auctions the tow truck driver thought that seeing as it was a write off he would take it straight there, wtf. so no assesor has seen the vehicle and its at pickles. Now its getting assesed on the 18th and I cannot buy back the wreck as RACV policy doesnt allow it they must be sold at auction, BUT I can keep the trailer and they will pay out on it they are just waiting for the assesor to lodge his report it was assesed on the 5/4/06 RACV what a joke will go back to NRMA never had a problem B4

Never had a problem with RACV before, they looked after us when my sister got T-boned in Clayton.
How bad is your trailer? My boss owns Traralgon Trailers, they do a lot of repairs and new sales. If its worth repairing it might be worth looking there. If you want their details, PM me. c",) |

First mistake you make is letting them tow it to a yard. Never do that! I would get a privately organised tow truck to get me out of the s**t. I'd rather have my cars sit in my garage than unprotected somewhere.
My two stockers I don't keep if written off but as far as I'm concerned. They can have them! I have wreck retension on the XB now. The cars worth more in parts than as a whole car. [edit]RACV are expensive anyway. I moved all my RACV insured cars off to another company.

Don't go to NRMA because they are the same(you don't get to keep the wreck). I was with NRMA for my insurace and all I would get is market value on my car if written off ($1500). I am now with Shannon's with $15000 agreed value and the wreck back if written off. They are also cheaper than NRMA. By the way what car do you own?

RACV pay for a hire vehicle if you have it on your policy. They do not provide you with a car it is still through a rental company, so if the rental company require a credit card, don't blame your insurer.
RACV have a large network that guarantee their work, if a repar shop can not back up their own work then RACV don't use them, most people who want their car fixed, want it done properly. I find it very hard to believe the "had a note put on the claim that I wanted to retain the wreck". It is a term of the RACV policty that the vehicle becomes theirs, a) if they have added to your policy, it would be printed on your policy and b) if you had read your policy booklet, it is writen in basic english that RACV keep it. If you are liable or contributed then you have to pay your excess. Regardless to whether any vehicle is a write off. Again clearly written in the booklet. Unfortunally RACV can not control all the tow trucks, so when a car is to be moved to an approved repairer and the truck drive may move it to Pickles if they think it is a write off. It would be booked for the 18th, insurers are allowed to have an Easter break too. RACV and NRMA aaer the same company. Brenx - by law 'Towing allocation' have to tow the car from a scene. This is not controlled by the insurer, when you call to make calim they put you through to 'towing allocation' this is law! So simply - if you read the PDS then you wouldn't be complaining. A copy is sent to you every year and they writen to be easily read.

LTDHO : Yes, but I wouldn't get the insurer to organise the towie. I would. That way the wreck goes where I want. I've done it before and if I'm ever in that situation? I hope not. I'll do it again. If you let them tow it to a yard they neglect to tell you to remove your personal items there and then.

Mate, NRMA is just as bad.
I had my renewal come in in Jan this year. They f'ed it up big. I have told them about a speeding fine, and they had the date wrong, the fine amount wrong, and the wrong speed, the car was insuraed at the wrong address, my partners name wasn't on it, they lost the VIN number, and they dropped the agreed value from 16,000 to 12,500! What a joke. I spent more then an hour on the phone trying to fix it all up. Basically all they had right was the car, and my name. And turns out cause of all the stuff ups, this years premium is higher then last years. I feel for ya. Insurance companies are the 5hit of all companies to deal with.

Hi all,
Just to clarify, RACV and NRMA are both part of th IAG group. RACV services Victoria while NRMA services NSW and QLD. And before you go Insurance bashing would you rather run the risk and not have any insurance? Just read things through carefully and make an informed decision. If you're still not happy then you can always go to the insurance ombudsman. |

After my car was stolen it took 9 weeks to get a payout. They provided a rental for 3 weeks but you need to put a $400 deposit on it. Pretty poor.

Did you have to pay RACV $400 deposit?? I find that highly unlikely!

As for the $400 deposit, it needed to be paid to Hertz, not RACV. I guess thats the way it goes hiring a car but they provide you with a rental then you need to cough up a deposit. Bit tough when you don't have the cash. |

LTD sounds like you work for them(racv)i will never use them again (racq) i doubt they are better in Vic than QLD as they are same company, first thing when my Fairlane got stolen was i had to wait 1 month in case it was found ,i waited a month then got told i had to go to Police and courthouse, pay for a copy of my criminal record and driving offence records, came back clean so they rang me and arranged an appointment with an insurance investigator,(god i wish i had used a tape recorder) had a yelling match with him after he accused me of being a thief and fraudster and made it clear they would not be paying out as he did not believe me, long story short i found out its illegal to force anyone to get copy of peoples police records ,but if i did not then it would delay payout for as long as they could,so you can stick your RACQ and RACV up where the sun dont shine, oh and by the way im not a Liar either and proved it to them eventually

I cant be bothered reading what everyone has said but you should know that it is illegal for them to tow you car to an auction yard without your permission.
IF YOU DID NOT GIVE YOUR PERMISSION TO TOW THE CAR THEN IT SHOULDNT HAVE BEEN TOWED It is still you car, its registered in your name, they have not paid you out for the total loss, youhave not signed the papers over. Go and get the car back I F"N hate insurance company's doing this. Also with regards to REPAIR NETWORKS - this is what happens when you go for cheap insurance - you should always insure with a company that has choice of repairer AAMI got stuffed up with this years ago as they had a repair network and made their repairers use non-genuine parts but then gave them a warranty on the repairs. AAMI didnt give the warranty they made the repairers give the warranty or they wouldnt get the repair jobs. TO THIS DAY there is still numerous repairers that wont repair a car if its insured with AAMI they will tell you to go somewhere else.

I don't know about you guys but anything over $1k isn't cheap and I want to know what I paid for when I buy, not after a smash and the sook how it didn't go the way I guessed. Regardless which company you are with, read it, know what's going on. Then you will find you know what happens after a smash. Don't learn the hard way, like most!! Unfortunally statistics show most thefts are not genuine and unfortunally this is why claims get investigated. Sure you complain it takes longer but, when the fraudulent ones are denied it keep premiums cheaper. It is simple business practice.

Insurance companies are responsible to their shareholders and therefore it would be negligible on their part to go around paying out on every claim.
As was said even if they only find out about 1 in 50 claims being fraudulent it will be money well spent on investigating. Insurance companies are not bottomless pits of money, If you insure your car for 5 years @ $1000 per year and it gets stolen and they pay u $12000 for a write off you win even if u get investigated. If you have nothing to hide whats the problem with giving them some records. |

AAMI are absolute idiots, i went to pay my insurance for the daily driver (1989 EA FAIRMONT) and i noticed they had MPFI on the form, so i went to change that at the same time, they didnt have the single point injection on their computers so the ******** behind the desk was arguing that my car is an XF!! ummm, no buddy... then i got a fine for not declaring it earlier... $120 more that i couldnt afford, so on top of my insurance and the fine i had to pay or my insurance would be void, it was an expensive day... ИИИИ you AAMI... goin insurance shopping soon...

Most motor insurance company's will cover personal belongings up to $400 after theft, fire or accident
I dont deal with RACV, AAMI, GIO or NRMA or any direct marketer so i dont know what they cover - most like nothing to reduce their premiums With regards to tools - obviously if you are going to have tools in your car or anything of value then it becomes a higher theft risk therefore premiums will have to be higher 1,000s of mobile phones and Lap Tops are stolen from cars which their owners are either too lazy to put them away from sight or are unfortunate to have their cars broken into If Insurer's were going to insure these items as well everyones insurance premiums would be higher You cant expect to pay the cheapest possible price and get the best prestige cover. YOU PAY FOR WHAT YOU GET and as previously said thats what a PDS (Policy Wording) is for READ IT
