Default Is a Fairmont a Falcon?

Is the fairmont a fairmont or a falcon?

A fairmont is a fairmont, but it starts life as a falcon shell and so does a ghia.

However when speaking to people you have to say its a falcon quite often as fairmont or fairmont ghia draws a blank with them.

I must admit to some confusion when referring to my F/Ghia.

I've got a mate who refers to his Calais as "the Calais" - never "the Holden" or "the Commy" or "the car" (eg whereas I'll move "the car", he'll move "the Calais").

It sounds pretentious to me.

"Moving the Falcon" sounds a lot less pretentious than "moving the Fairmont" but not as pretentious as "moving the Ferrari"

Wow. I really didn't expect this sorta response.

I meant technically, in Ford's books, is it a fairmont or a falcon fairmont, aside from them all being falcon shells, and the current BA/BF fairmonts being a trim package.

Whats this about the plates being stamped Falcon?

Take a look here:

http://www.ford.co.nz/servlet/Conten...Page&c=DFYPage

I think this kinda answers it maybe?

well the ford aus site is different. but you have to click on the "falcon" to see the fairmonts.

its based on a falcon. its a falcon. id never call it a ford falcon fairmont id just say fairmont or probably just falcon.

i refer to my mates GT's as falcons.

Yeah my Mum refers to her VS as The Berlina. Never just The Commodore or Holden. Many non-car minded people don't know what I'm talking about when I say mine is a Fairmont Ghia so I just say it's a Ford

I disagree, even though it starts life as a falcon shell, it if were a falcon, it'd be called Ford Falcon Fairmont or FFFairmont Ghia!

GT is a Falcon, Fairmont is not.

Holden cars only have one name, which roll off the tongue better than Fairmont Ghia!

Just say "I'll go move the Ghia!" that'll fix them! LOL!

A Fairmont up untill 2002 was a fairmont, nowdays it's a dressed up falcon. The fairmont always differed greatly with the 'high series' dash board, differnent instruments and the woodgrain & chrome high lights.

Nowdays since the BA, the fairmont has the same dash (only major difference being the climate control & larger screen), instuments, woodgrain that doesn't stand out (black woodgrain) silver is used more than chrome.

The fairmont these days has an almost identical nose & rear to the falcon.

So, the fairmont used to be a fairmont, nowdays it's a plush falcon.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the only model to feature a signifigantly different dash for Fairmonts was the AU yeah? The EAs right throught to the EL's had the same dash with alterations for climate control, and maybe a bit of wood grain here and there. So your point is?

A Fairmont Is a Fairmont.
A Fairmont Ghia is a Fairmont Ghia
A Falcon is a Falcon.

Simple as that.

A GT is a Falcon GT.

By saying that all of them start from a Falcon shell therefore are Falcons your saying that a TE50 is a Falcon, A V8 Supercar is a Falcon, and so on and so fourth.

A FAIRMONT IS A FAIRMONT.

unless its mine, in which case its a "Tickford Equiped Fairmont", but if i say that i sound like a ****er.

When talking about it to the family or car minded people, i will call it either "fairmont", "monty" or "The Beast", but when talking to other people (Im in real estate and take people in my car every day), i simply say, ford. If you say fairmont they dont know what your talking about.

ELGT is actually registered as a Fairmont...

Fairmont Ghia, and GT go down the prestige line at Ford, so they are slightly different.
I will post my ELGT rego papers to show its regd. as a Fairmont if you like...

Ford Falcon Forte
Ford Falcon Futura
Ford Falcon Xr6/Xr8/TS50/TE50
Ford Falcon GT

Ford Fairmont
Ford Fairmont Ghia

Thats how i always saw it.

As for Holden i believe that even the acclaim is not a commodore

Holden Commodore Executive
Holden Commodore S/SS

Holden Acclaim
Holden Berlina
Holden Calais

*Having said all this they are still a Ford Falcon or a Holden Commodore when they roll on the assembly line, there just names i just call them falcons and commodores 90% of the time.

Fairmont is a Fairmont. Starts life as a Falcon, then becomes luxury-ised and morphs into a Fairmont.

GT is NOT a Falcon, hell, they're not even a Ford - used to be (XW, XY etc), but not the new ones (BA to BF).
They are an FPV GT, or FPV GT-P (The Fairmont Ghia version of the GT, LOL).

Are you talking old school GTs, or current GTs?

Old school = GT Falcon

New = GT, or GT-P.

GT is XR8 based, GT-P is Fairmont/Ghia based.

When i said GT is a GT Falcon, i was thinking of Old School GT.
ELGT as said above is down as a Fairmont & New ones are well, GT or GTP.

Basic fact. They are what they are. GT is a GT, Falcon (Forte, Futura) is a Falcon, Fairmont is a Fairmont.
