Default Nos

Has anyone actually installed a NOS system in their car? If so, what modifications were done to achieve that? Found that not that many people spoke of seriously doing NOS in their cars in this forum so far... Maybe its cos to my estimations it would probably cost nearly 15k to get a reliable set up...

from what ive read..
it comes down to supplying the extra fuel that the extra air the n2o gives you..
and the computer to control the extra fuel flow etc

$15K? Try under $4K for a well set up, safe and reliable top range wet system at retail prices. Thats installed and tuned too.

Seen it done on a few cars. Some street driven, a stock car can take small amounts (50hp shot) no problem. Found if ya gonna get it setup you'll need another fuel pump. When ya think about it, once it's setup it is actually a fairly cheap form of horspower

The fine is over $15,000 if you get caught using it on the street..
well in Sydney anyway.

A dry set up, they put a nozzel in the air intake infront of the throttle body and thats where it squirts, thats the set up I would go for and its much cheaper then a wet system.
also a stock AU motor can handel from what ive heard upto 150hp shot IF well tuned, but I wouldnt go more then 100hp.

I have seen a basic setup wih a 50hp fogger in the intake pipe of a smaller car.

Provided the engine can handle it, a little nozzle stuck in the pipe would do the trick. Remember to set it up for only a few second squirt...time depending on the setup of course.

Obviously to maximise the effectiveness on the STRIP, there are more involved setups

if its for the strip (and it should be as its illegal and plain stupid on the road) then a "few seconds" needs to be approx 1 second after you take off all the way till you hit the finish line.. otherwise whats the point? Thats why the car has to be tuned to take it... 10-13 seconds of Nitros is very capable of burning nice big holes through pistons if leanded out.

Exactly, but for a quick shot on an everyday road car, a few seconds woud be all you'd want otherwise, as you said, Holey Pistons R US.

If I went to the extent to fully set up and tune a car to run 10-13 seconds of nitrous, it would never see the street.

As for legality. I remember years ago in SA you could have the setup and bottles in the car, provided they were not hooked up. Is this still the case and is it the same in eastern states? Thanks 347_XR8, i thought the same

The bottle cannot be in the boot in the cradle while on the street.. hooked up or not... as fr as I know in Vic.

As for having it set up for full length runs in a street car, its not so big a deal now. Many interceptors can deal with it and the edit allows for a tune just for it to be stored purely for drag use before going back to the "road tune"

I have seen NOS on a few street cars which are driven to the strip. I was under the impression it was only illegal if it's connected up to a bottle.

OK. I always though Vic authorities were bastards... I think it's still just unhooked here in SA.

Edits are good now so yeah, maybe it'll make it easier. Also depends on the car.... we are talking about something that have an ECU. Mate had injection on his 400chev so we could run nitrous on the pedal... too bad he kept twisting chassis's.

Ive got an AU1 Fairmont sedan, I6. Its pretty standard. Got a big exhaust tip, xr intake, in terms of performance features. Got Green LED parking lights, neons inside (outside i will surely get deffected), tinted, JVC head unit, not performance wise, though thats a bit irrelevant, lol. Considering putting in black altesa lights type for the tail lights.

Trying to find cheap wheels now. Maybe xr6 wheels or something. No problems in straight line for the wheels, but on corners wouldn't mind more grip, plus will improve on the standard looks...

Also considering upgrading front brakes to dba slotted rotors. maybe that will get rid of the dead feeling in the brakes i have now. Or maybe i just need a brake fluid flush...

So yea, just trying to figure out now what else needs to be done to put a NOS system, without going to the workshop a year later with a blown up engine or gooone pistons... and work towards that eventually.

haha, yeah, thats a bit obvious there..... Legally speaking, not sure though how they would document the defect, if you could prove (ie replace it) that its an extra fuel tank with just NOS labels on it for the show off factor, it would be hard for them to disprove it.

With the 15k, i was thinking running it with the turbo... However, if up to 100hp is achievable without the turbo, its good enough for me.

Also, i prob wouldn't make the NOS bottle that obvious in the boot. And thats a huge NOS bottle there, haha. I was thinking smaller set ups. Ones that u can hide in the interior, or actually fit in the interior...

Um, Uncle Kens bottle holds Gas.... LPG to be precise. Somehow I dont think the police would do anything but laugh.

Also running bottles inside the car isnt that great. In case of a leak the gas would soon have you smiling as you drove off a cliff... its called laughing gas for a reason. At least in the boot it can vent straight through the external vents without overwhelming the cabin so fast.

OOEERRR!!!

Boost and nitrous! A little out of my league.

**HONESTY EDIT** Everthing except eating is out of Mack 6's league. Ignore him**

Damn.

CAPA do a range of systems to suit a variety of applications and with the edit (providing you have an AU in the AU forum) it shouldn't be a huge issue.

Email or Ring them, thbey are very helpful

if you ring around you will get a N.L.S. nos kit for $1,080 plus a extra $300 for a bottle warmer
6 injectors and every thing you need
the injectors are adjustable from 75 to 150hp
do you have L.P.G. on your car ??
If you do it is easer to do ..

Nah, no LPG.

After upgrading the brakes and full exhaust, and completing the sound system, NOS will be next in line, i think... Doesn't sound too expensive.
