Days where things just don't go right for your car

Well, I put the ute in for it's 110,000km service today with my mechanic.

I supplied most parts from him to do the job, like I always have with him, and he's cool with that.

Two things go wrong...

1. I supplied him the wrong ignition leads. Apparantly the rubbers weren't big enough to fit round the coils, I double checked the parts number at Super Cheap (I hate them) and they checked out to be the right ones... I'll be heading there after work to get my moolah back, that's for sure.

2. I have a lovely folded ute tub now too. Well, it's nothing drastic, just that when he was lifting up the ute on the hoist, the arm came out from underneath and bent the front of the tub up a little. I'm going to call the local panel beater shop and get them to fix it. My mechanic said he's OK with paying it.

Everytime I want something done with my car, something goes wrong.

Damn unlucky mate, thats bloody unfortunate. At least your mechanic is being honourable but it is the inconvenience that hurts the most.
Hope it aint off the road for long and it gets done properly.

That's always a risk when supplying your own parts, could've been worse though, you could have stripped a part at home and had the wrong replacement!

At least your mechanic will pay for the fix up, that's honourable at least. How many guys have had the repair shop deny everything?

Hope it's all sorted soon.

The leads that Supercheap carry are for AU1s only. Even though Bosch list the part as suiting 1998 - 2002 model AUs, it's not true. The series 1 had "outie" coilpacks, and the series 2 had "innies" (ie the leads for series 1 are innies, and series 2 are outies).

Pulsar Story.. Hydraulic hose broke.. $130. Next day PS rack $500 2 weeks later. PS pump $400. During Christmas and 2 birthdays.

I got a motor off someone from this forum once and put it in my EB only to find it was ed and had no compression on 4 cylinders. :S

lol. Sounds like my old computer I built.

The soundcard failed right out of the box, the speakers blew 6 months in, the motherboard lost a ram slot a few months in, 1 ram stick ended up faulty, HDD was clunking - never replaced it, LCD monitor could never keep a clear white - never changed, FDD failed first time I went to use it 2 years after owning it, joystick wouldn't detect after 12 months, printer died after 12 months, power cable snaped on the CPU fan, tape drive never worked out of the box, motherboard died again, power supply died, FDD failed again, soundcard failed again (centre channel), printer USB port failed...

Finally sold computer on ebay... got a dell PC after that... then the hdd in that failed, then I got a Palm - it eventually decided to not turn on, so I got a dell laptop, then the RAM in that failed (both SIMM's)...

I wanna be a carpenter.... I hate IT.

Don't get me started on what's gone wrong with the AU....

I have formed the opinion that anything that doesn't grow on tree's is going to fail....and in saying that, even my apple tree out the back doesn't have good apples....

I have the same indents in the front section of the tub ... from the previous owner's mechanic ... used the tub as jacking points .... FOOOLS.

The dents are now covered with side skirts ... hee hee.

My last service was enjoyable ... $1300 later.
New power steer pump.
New steering rack
oil cooler + fitting
transmission service/flush
diff flush and new fluid plus additive
wheel alignment
harmonic balancer seal replacement.

Now I have found a lovely oil sump gasket leak ... and that's going to be fun in fixing ... seeing as there is no part replacement ... and it's a labour intensive job as well. Labour is going to sting ... and it's going to be off the road for at least a day ... maybe 1.5 days (loss of revenue for me ... and more cost).

I am trying to put it off though ... might patch it up from the outside and keep it running for a little while longer ... but need to put it in and get it done.

Also now having fun with teeth at the moment ... you thought mechanics charge megabucks ... dentist/peridentists take more than just your teeth ... you need to give other body parts to pay the damn bill. Grrrrr.

That's what it did.

I thought that was the case with the leads too. I'm going to head back to Super Cheap this afternoon after work and get my money back, I really couldn't be stuffed yesterday.

Something else that was good was free labour from my mechanic too.

I had 2 of those dents ... one on each side ... identically spaced too.
Ask Adam ... he had fun fitting the ute skirts ... I think a rubber mallet was used to massage the ute tub sill slightly to get the skirts to fit.

OK. this was a while ago, but is still haunting me.

After 3 months delay I recieved my new rig in January.

Came directly from Mack Aust on the back of a semi.

Rolled off the tray and was parked overnight. Next morning I had these leaks.
-Coolant from cooling system
-Oil from engine
-Hydraulic Oil form the tank, 1 of the pumps and 3-4 places on hoses.
-Fluid from transfer case and gearbox
-I think one of the front hubs was leaking as well.

One week later is was off the Mack here in Adelaide to get fixed.
Two weeks later it came back and had sorted all leaks except for coolant and transfer case.
One week later, back off to Mack again.
One week later, back with a very small coolant leak. Was acceptable and the truck was required for a training activity.
Truck made it 20km before overheating on a hill. Turns out the Horton Fan Clutch (like normal fan clutch) was buggered and wasn't kicking in when the engine got how. Rigged it so fan was on all the time and made a good weekend with 1500km (except when the 34 tonne truck and trailer was bogged for training exercise.)

Went to Mack to have fan clutch sorted.

Was required to go to Woomera for 2 weeks and since the small coolant leak was still acceptable, it went.
I got a phone call at 2pm that day asking me to go up and swap this big truck for the small truck as it had died and wouldn't move. They limped it back to Mack in the end and finally realised that they had originally fitted a water pump for a new block style to the old style block in the truck, and had double gasketed it. The tell tale sign was that two bolts would pull out even after having a tonne of theadlocker applied.

It has been going ok since then, but last night I noticed that the battery had low levels and I think the Generator (army 12/24v alternator) is buggered. YAY

looks like pre delivery for trucks is the same as cars .......pretty average, nice banger though
