Hey everybody,
First post here so ill give you a quick rundown on my project. It all started when my first car a mk2 4door 2lt got hit in the bum by a truck :jab: and then i got given my mk1 2door shell : looking prity ruff and soory for itself. It had previosley had a pinto in it so i swaped the moter from my mk2 over and drove it round for a while like that. :eclipsee_ After a while i thought i would make the old girl a little safer, so i swaped all the running gear over from my mk2. then i bogged up the rust and gave her a new coat of paint, but due to my crap bog job it quickly fell apart. So now its been sitting in the shed for a couple of years and ive been slowly preping the engine bay for a new coat of paint. (what a ***** off a job) So now for my questions. -Is it hard to fit a rear sway bar from a mk2 RS2000? the diff i have fitted has the brackets for one! -How difficult is it to fit a drivers side floor pan out of another car? (if i can find a good one) or should i just weld some sheet metal in? -What are some good low budget mods for my pinto? I alread have a crow street strip cam and a side draught manifold but no carby yet Cheers for ya help! |

An RS2000 rear sway bar is easy to fit but next to useless. I've taken mine of my RS2000 and it handles better (go figure.) You can get anti-tramp rod kits from the UK which are much better but do require a bit of welding.
You can buy new floor sections from Rare Spares for all Mk 1 Escorts and Mk 2 Vans. About $100 per side. Better than grafting in anything that fits. Forget the side-drafts unless you've had serious work to the heads. My Escort runs a V6 Capri carb and smokes punters with side-drafts because their head set-up just can't burn that fuel quick-enough. The secret to performance in pintos is all headwork and a well balanced bottom end....And then getting it to the rear wheels. A whole other story! My advice, buy a good second hand head, take it down to your local expert and get the biggest valves that will fit, put in it....Hint 351. And a lumpy cam (post 4000 power). Then fit your webers. |
