DO NOT push 90# on your home phone
"I got a call last night from an individual identifying himself as an AT&T Service Technician who was conducting a test on our telephone lines. He stated that to complete the test I should touch nine (9), zero (0), hash (#) & then hang up. Luckily, I was suspicious & refused. Upon contacting the telephone company, I was informed that by pushing 90#, you give the requesting individual full access to your telephone line, which allows them to place long distance telephone calls billed to your home phone number. I was further informed that this scam has been originating from many of the local gaols/prisons. DO NOT press 90# for ANYONE. PLEASE pass this on to your friends. If you have mailing lists &/or newsletters from organisations you are connected with, I encourage you to pass this on." I received this info, not sure how accurate, but something to be aware of.

Redrum, is that a call you got or an email?
I only ask because it's the same as an email that was going around years ago. I'm pretty sure we don't have AT&T here in Australia!

I suggest before you blindly forward this sort of stuff on that you check out some of the urban myth busting sites. Ie Snopes. Yes. #90 can work, but only if the number being called is on PBX type system setup to let you do this. Does it work on home phones in Australia? no. But really. Please. Post more email forwards like this.

This is old news. but Voice over IP telephones such as some Internet providers offer and what some business run will provide many more floors even when the system is locked down.
We had a case at work where some overseas people hacked into our Corparate IP Phone system. Logged into voice mail and managed to forward calls. |

I used to work fairly high up in telstra in a technical field. I can confirm it is IMPOSSIBLE for this method to work. As stated previously it could work on a PBX but these are increasingly uncommon and they would have to guess the transfer and outside line sequence which would make you suss anyway. It is possible for certain line faults to cause your calls to be billed and lines to be crossed but not usually without either party noticing some inconsistancies in there service.
PM me if you need any info on anything landline related(IE not mobile)
