Something i came across earlier while having a mess around .
I have recently been looking for a new headunit to replace the indash 6stacker factory unit. After looking around i found alot of the units i was looking at don't support the volume and seek controls on the AU steering wheel. I ripped my radio out and had a bit of a mess around with the multimeter checking the pinouts on the radio , i came across the pinouts for the volume controls on the steering wheel , these pins adjusted the resistance up and down. It got me thinking later that / seeing most headunit come with 2 remote controls , u could mount 1 behind the dash and tap into it / tap into the buttons which control the volume, and wire the pinouts from the headunits plug into the remote controls volume control buttons / thus making the wheel change the volume on the extra remote control hidden behind the headunit behind the dash , could wire the remote to power off the car too , so the battery never go flat / or you could buy a blank pcb and copy the remote controls cuircut board and parts / but connect the remotes volume control buttons to the pinouts instead. I still haven't sorted out the seek button yet , ill see what the go is there and what signal it is sending . As far as the volume controls though , its just using standard resistance (like a pot) to change the volume . Seems pretty easy and standard to set the volume controls up for any headunit , even if it didnt have a remote control , you could pull apart the headunit and wire the pinouts to the buttons or pot on the new headset. I'll post somemore info on this soon ..cheers

lol , its all in good fun .
There's nothing like messing with electrical stuff ,and accidentlly eletrocuting yaself every now and then, gets the heart going again ..lmao. Although the 12v car electrics don't have that 'fun' side to it , unless you start messing with coil packs ! ..lol Anyway, i'll be getting a new headunit soon , so ill keep you all posted on what happens and if the above is possible easily / i'll sort out that seek button too . cheers .
