dont take your life for granted...
or how easy you have things... learnt this myself over the weekend... thursday night, was taken to hospital by the missus after a blood test for diabetes... was displaying a few symptoms, so she and her mum did a test... came back at 28... should be about 6 or 7... frdiay morning, was told i had type 1 diabetes... which is the worse one to have if your going to get it at all... occurs in about 15 percent of all diabetic patients... had to get the worse one of the two didnt i? just a heads up to you all, dont take anything for granted... life turned on its head for me, have to inject everyday... and watch what i eat very carefully... no more getting ****ed either... sadly... not expecting any sympathy or replies, just sharing something... theres no use being down about it, s**t happens... just not to the people who deserve it... |

That's right ***** Happens life goes on.
When I was 12 I got diagnosed with Leukemia (AML), took me 4 years of intense treatment to get rid of it. Was on drugs that blew me up like a balloon (Extremely FAT), weaken my bones, gave me cataracts in my eyes, rotted my teeth etc etc. Last option was a bone marrow transplant which I had but it failed, doctors gave up, mum & dad said try again so they did a second bone marrow transplant worked BUT with all the drugs they gave me they said I would need a liver transplant as its been stuffed About 4 years ago liver finally failed, dropped into a coma, was in intensive care and 2nd on the list for a liver transplant, after 10 days in a coma the doctors said I could have brain damage and asked my mum and dad if they wanted me to have a liver transplant, of course parents said yes 8 months in hospital, lost use of everything, couldnt speak, could only hear and see that's it, couldnt move as all my muscles had disappeared due to being in bed for so long - I was a vegetable. ANYWAY last 8 weeks of it all I went to a REHAB center to build up strength, learn to walk, eat, wash, talk etc etc whilst I was in there you really see what life is all about - people lose limbs, there was only lady with no legs and no hands That's when you realise what ever yo go through there is some one much worse off and they survive

sorry to hear that. i do understand though coming from a family with a background for diabetes.
itll take a while to get use to im guessing but soon enough itll be a part of every day life.

Well, I am sorry to hear that although I know you are not looking for sympathy. Diabetes is a hard condition to live with, especially type 1 insulin dependent. I had gestational diabetes recently when I was pregnant with my son and that was hard enough, so I can just imagine what you have to deal with!
My parents are both diabetics but thankfully type 2 for the moment, so they are just diet controlled. However, Dad was told a few weeks ago by his specialist that he will be on insulin injections soon as it has gotten worse, its just a matter of time. He manages it pretty well and he uses exercise to keep his BSLs down at the moment... Well, I guess you will get used to the idea and learn to manage it, but the lifestyle changes suck. I hope you go ok and that you dont feel too crook with it all at the moment. It is often a wakeup, isnt it, to not take things for granted in life... Take care mate Jac

No, its not good. But there are much worse things then having to eat well and having an injection each day. How does someone even get diabetes all of a sudden?

sorry to hear that man, my old man is also a type 1 and it (cant spell the word) is passed down through genes if your not careful... so if it happens to the best of us i might be joining you in the diabetics lounge..lol << sorry that was meant to be a bit of cheering up

lol... maybe... at least its a comfy lounge... with lots of food... lol
apparently it can be passed down, not sure of the percentage though... yeah hopoefully we save a bit of money, and our health gets a bit better... always room for improvement hey... |

Its not all that bad, my wife has been type 1 since she was nine and is now 28. injections 4 times a day, copes quite well, you just need to monitor it, and the drinking side, it nevers seems to stop her, so after you have it settled, you should be fine. If you need any further info, i'll get her to jump on for you and give you some answers if you have any questions.

My bro came down with this (type 1), at the start of the year. just came out of no where and just blew us away. he's copping quite well, the changes are hard at first but soon come the norm.
As for drinking, you still can have a bender, how ever it's advised that you don't. You gotta monitor your blood suger every hour or so. recomended to drink lights or something. every second should be water. Complicated, but you can still enjoy the occasional brew none the less Cheers. PS Sorry to hear, hope it all goes well for ya |

Sorry to hear, good luck with it all.
My neighbours son & father have Type 1 & the little one is usually in and out of Monash but he is one of the happiest toddler's I've seen & the father works full time as a chef, so you can still go on living normally but it's just an adjustment. Did the doctors say much how it would have progressed? Lifestyle or hereditary?

well as far as i know noone in my family has it... so i guess it has to start somewhere doesnt it?
its not really lifestyle, apparently you can be born with the gene, and something triggers it... they reckon it could be something like an infection, and it starts from there... some people may go through life not triggering it though... i guess lifestyle could cause it though... they dont even know really... |
