Lowering My Car - Shocks or No Shocks ?

Heya

The heading says it all.

Ive got my new wheels - YAY - and now i must lower my car.

Should i replace the shocks as well ???? Whats the pros and cons ...

Some shocks will fail after lowering. Depends on a range of circumstances. If the shocks are not too old, if the lowering is not too radical and the shocks are still "working" in the specified range all should be OK. Unless: you want a firmer ride or something.

yeah depends how low u go some lowered springs require a shorter length shock/strut or they can bottom out or blow out (leak)..Also depends on the age of the shocks i heard from monroe that shocks should be replaced every 80 000 depending on driving conditions etc..It all depends be prepared though as the last thing yu want to do is put springs in then shocks fail some time in the near future because ur labour to refit new ones will be the same all over again with strut type..so u wont save any money in the long term..Do it once then forget :voldar02:

I'd go springs and shocks together, from someone like Pedders, as they know how their products will go together. If you already have sourced springs, then Pedders or someone like them should be able to match up a good shock to suit.

I have XR springs and Pedders shocks and they are working well together.

I dont want to steal the thread, but my shocks seem to be pretty good, but my bushes are stuffed. If I went and got some SSL springs, would I be able to drive around for a month or two before getting the shocks?

you can drive around for as long as you want...you'd be better off getting the springs and leave them off the car til you get shocks, simply because you have to pull the springs off to change the shocks, as well as get a wheel alignment everytime you pull them off

I would get shocks, but depends how low you go, if you only go SL you dont really need to worry, if you go SSL I would definately get shocks, and decent ones. IMO stay away from pedders..

GK everyone has a product issue be it pedders or rolls royce. Be interesting what stiddy has to say......

i have pedders sports ryders in mine they stage 2 springs and shocks i fitted myself did the whole lot for under 600..

The stiffer the spring, the stiffer the shock you need. A matched set is the go if you have the bucks.

Anyone had any experience with Beaurepairs ? Good or bad ....

Got quoted $1500 for 1.25 Inch lower, new springs, shocks, casters.

What brand springs and shocks? You would be better off buying the springs and shocks yourself and getting them fitted at that price. King springs are about $130 a pair and GTgas shocks are about $120 a pair at repco.

new springs
shocks
casters

I dunno what brands. i remember it was about $480 just for the shocks before labour alone

i'll try pedders... unless useless wants to enlighten me on anything i should becareful of ...

I replaced my Forte coils with XR coils and kept the same shockies. All was good. EXCEPT, when I did get round to changing the shockies it was a much harder job to get the old ones out because the car had been lowered. Lot of cussing until I figured I had to undo the sway bar mounts, then it was easy peasy.

Series 1 right?

JC tells me on S1 AU's, the sway bars must be undone, but on S2-3 cars they don't.

I didn't need to on the S2, but it would have been much easier if I had have done so. The extra room to move would have been handy. It's all good though! LOL!
