Thumbs up Perpetual Brock Trophy to Bathurst Winner

THE memory of Peter Brock will be honoured with a perpetual trophy to be awarded to the winners of the annual Bathurst 1000.

The trophy will be awarded to the winners of next month's race at Mt Panorama and to the winners thereafter.
Officials at V8 Supercars Australia are expected to announce the details of the crafting of the trophy today as well as a string of tributes for Brock at next month's Bathurst meeting.

A massive crowd is expected to pay its own tribute to Brock by attending the Super Cheap Auto Bathurst 1000 from October 5-8.

Brock won the Bathurst race a record nine times between 1972 and 1997, twice winning three times in a row.

Officials yesterday ruled out naming the race after Brock because of long-term commercial complications.

In Bathurst, a groundswell of support makes a statue of Brock at the gates of Mt Panorama almost a certainty.

Bathurst council was considering the move yesterday as well as a suggestion that a second short circuit track at the bottom of the mountain be named in Brock's honour.

A second track would enable the council to conduct race meetings incorporating the famous pit straight without closing the public road to the top of Mt Panorama.

"There have been hundreds of ideas for tributes floated in the media and public," V8 Supercar chairman Tony Cochrane acknowledged yesterday.

"He has been a great loss to the V8 Supercar family and we will make sure he is long remembered."

Will be awesome to see the old cars back on the track, even if they are Holdens.

The V8Supercars website has good detail, and lots of nice touches. There's gonna be millions of banners made by the fans as well as plenty of respect paid, even durring the great race. Good to hear that ALL cars have been given "05" decals to stick on the cars..

Good to see the legend is getting the tribute he deserves.

I was thinking the other day how cool it would be if they ever put Jamie Brock and Jack Perkins in a v8 supercar together!!! Just a thought for down the track....

this years bathurst is going to be special i can feel it. whats happened wth brock, the championship status, going to be an awesome weekend.

just on the trophy...its going to be quite special for the winner...i reckon it ads as an extra incentive for a driver to win. i can see a connection hear...the trophy being awarded, lowndseys relationship with brock. its all falling into place and I can see now Lowndseys name being the first to be engraved onto that trophy.

Off that though, so awesome to see so many people coming together to pay tribute to the king, regardless of red/blue blood. Wonder what the trophy will look like?
