Default In market for new car, idea's

Hi Guys

After writing off my XR6 5 speed that I owned for an entire 2 months... (don't ask) Im after a new car.

Insurance just paid out and I only have about 12 grand to spend.

Im looking at a nice AU II Forte Auto with C2r Havoc Bodykit... Now which dev kit from Jim Mock would take this to the performance of my old XR6?

Gah insurance is going to cost me a SHAT load im a rating 7 driver now how bad is that!!!

Oh well I just.. CAN NOT and WILL NOT go with a base line forte... i don't know why i just don't want to... I will if its a forte with a dev kit.. but it has to have sex appeal too.

AHH I MISS MY XR :(

So anyway AU Falcon is my model of choice... XR's are just out of my price range by the time i pay insurance etc.

mmm Any idea's on what to do with 12 grand and still get a bit of performance.. 5 speed is preferred but these are hard to come by i'd go with an Auto and one of the DEV kits I guess.

Throw some idea's at me looking to get new car this coming week...

Dev5 Cam & heavy duty springs install in my car I think was around $220 ( i think).

Swapping the dev5 head over will prob cost you the most in labour.

The Dev5 kit will be fine with an auto.

Wouldn't go that route. Headers, 2 1/2" catback exhaust and CAI will bring it close, if not the same as a XR6. Shouldn't cost you more than a grand either.

FTG Auto Salvage were selling a 5 speed AU XR8 for less than 12k. Not sure if it's still for sale though. It was in the For Sale forums.

With $12k you will be able to get another AU XR6 look at what they go for not the asking price.

Autos are much slower but with $12k you could get a nice AUI Fairmont ghia with VCT.

Caspers shows these will go very well.

GAHHH after having a better look yes there are many AU XR's i can afford.

AHH this is so stressful i just want a car ASAP but none are as good as what I had..

My 5 speed galaxy blue AU with just 115,000k's :( I haggled that down to $11,100 at a mazda dealer, had so many things replaced under warranty for free... then i wrote it off :( :( AHHH

Well a lady offered the body kitted AU II forte (C2R Havoc Kit) for 9grand

But I really do want a 5 speed.. :(
I guess theres no hope I'll have 2 grand left over for insurance I may as well spend the whole 12 and get something i really like.

mmmmmm I guess I'll keep lookinggg

look for a fairmont. will be auto only, but will have a bit of luxury and you can still make it go quick. a ghia would be a better buy, with VCT, and i THINK IRS as well.

yep I can get a nice black forte from a dealer for 10,400 with 5 year warranty.... would look soooo hot lowered with the wheels I've already half paid for (BA XR 18 inch factory option, 5 spoke).

Well the money is now in my account so i seriously have to start looking!!! With my rating 7 I'm only looking at a couple of hundred extra on the premium if i stay with AAMI... (about 2200 bucks, i just finished paying 1900 bucks for my old car grrr)

I know they can though.. I'm really considering an AU series 1 forte with XR Series 1 spoiler and side skirts..

Nice BLACK one...

but 10,400.. 5 year warranty from the dealer.. but say i insure it.. it's only covered for 8,700 or something?

What do you think? edit: 99 model with 104,000k's

If you can, Id go for a Series II or III. You may as well go for the latest model you can, and S2 and 3 have moe features than S1.

Default get a v8

There is only one choice to make , v8 is it. Its a fact that the v8s keep more value than a six. Spend money on the six and its always a six. My bog stock forte v8 did a 15.013 at the motorplex the only mod a tickford cai that cost 30 bucks. No stock six would do that :
