Unhappy Female needs advice on Falcon AU SR series 3 Pleaaase Reply!

hi, I am a female and have been offered the above car for 8000. it has only done 90 000k. is this a good buy?

What is the SR? What is the best AU Model? Do they all have the spoiler kit? Would it tow a horse float? What interior features does it have? please help me. thanks

I Have an SR

You Get , Sports Mode Auto , Sports Styled Suspension (Would Carry a Float but would damage over time) 8 for 9 is reasonable , its about the 5th from the top in AU as you have TL , TE , XR6 , XR8 , Then SR , Futura/Forte

i live in wa and series 3 falcons dont go for less than 10 grand and the sr is easily as nice as anything ford has to offerin that range. the price seems good just depends on you, get an rac check over the car first.If u want to tow a horse float just make sure the transmission cooler is up to the job.

The SR is the poor man's Fairmont, or the sporty Futura, whichever way you want to look at it. It's usually associated with running out the model to make way for the new model. Usually it's a Forte with Futura features and sports suspension, alloys, wing etc (I think back when they came out on the AU it was $6k of extras for $500, or something like that), so it's not really 5th on the list. More like 9th or 10th or so in the sedan list:

$8k seems to be a good price though, and that's a lot of car for the price.

I own a series 1 forte v8 and i wish it looked as good as a sr. Personally i think the new sr falcons are better looking than the million xrs that cruise around, Not as many sr falcons as all the others

i'd put the Fairmont Ghia V8 above the XR6, but i'm a bit biased. out:

Rockinjabba that's a great price for what the car is. Only thing you'll need to do is get it thoroughly checked by a reputable motoring body, as there's nothing worse than nasty little surprises popping up when you're on 'new car' high. How's the bodywork ? I'd buy it if i were in the market for a 6 cylinder. Also if you're after a tow pack, i have one on each of my cars and want to get rid of both of them - one is a 1600kg tow bar, and the other is a 2300kg caravan/trailer hitch. Depending where you are (might have missed where you said this) i could arrange something if you're interested. (unless the car already has the equipment of course, and if my bars would actually fit an AU..).

I've owned a few Fords in the past, never an AU, but a few models newer and older than it. I drove a few AU's when looking to buy a while back, and they're great cars. Lively off the line, powerful, plenty of torque for suburb driving, and the brakes are generally good. Only thing i found restrictive was head check visibility (pillars get in the way, i'm 5ft11.. not exactly huge) and the steering is a little light, but i prefer that. Mechanically the AU's are generally great, and the niggling head gasket issues suffered in the 6 cylinder versions of the preceeding models were fixed for the AU. The only thing you need to get over is the looks :P *ducks* (although the series 3 looks the best, and being an SR it gets a sportier look)

Good luck with the purchase, and post some pics up if all goes well!

Dont put it on gas if u want to tow a float coz it will lose power and b a slug off the mark , just what u dont want for towing

If it's tuned properly you won't be able to tell the difference.

There are two choices - if you go straight gas and no petrol at all it is easy tune and there will be very minimal difference in power.

If you choose to use dual fuel conversion you must use the Sprint Gas one which provides a separate computer to control ignition for when you switch over to gas. Again with this type of system there is virtually no difference in performance.

The only time you will get lack of performance with a dual fuel system is if the system does not include a separate controller for the LPG - like the older IMCO type systems which use a convertor. The Sprint Gas system is a positive pressure type system and is triggered from the car's injector system and does not use a convertor as such.

All depends how you want to "judge" your list eh .... like, for me performance is top priority, luxury is very secondary, so my list would start at TE50 No. 1 !!! LOL

PS - and if two otherwise identical cars were offered to me for nix I'd choose an SR over a Fairmont Ghia any day. But that's just me ...

i own a SR and it came with a manual ... :thebirds:

but yeah as said above its the 'runout' of the futura/forte though it happened every year?? go figure

i only got front power windows, irs, LSD, sports suspension, SR 16" rims x 5

8k is def a VERY VERY good buy...trust me i spent double that to get mine

the next question too ask would be how many horses ,how often will i be towing, how much does said horse float weigh with said horses and maximum towing capacity of the falcon ,i know nothing about horses but i would be concerned towing 2 ton or more of horses around (if thats what they weigh) with the trailer for insurance purposes, mine has a 1200 kg rated tow bar, i`m not sure what the maximum weight that can be towed with the heavier towbar, it might pay too look in too this Rockinjabba, im sure some of the other members will know this information

One horse is about 580kgs and trailor is about 800kg, normal tow bar though.

just had a look at the manual, Load limits, towing capacity is reduced to 1200kg for manual transmission.......,with the heavy duty tow pack max permitted load is 2300 kg

As has been said the SR is basically a basic model (Forte) sedan or wagon which had some "extra goodies" added as an incentive to get people to buy when a new model was imminent. They were a very good value buy - the extras usually took it up to Futura specs or thereabouts and on a Series 3 included rear power windows, upgraded interior cloth seat trim, rear spoiler, mag wheels, side skirts, cruise control ... and I think also the sports handling suspension. Oh, and not to forget the SR decals LOL.

It will tow a horse float without any problems. If it's a manual the handbook says the maximum is 1200 kg which is an average float (straight loading) with one good size horse in it. However, if you have the 1600kg tow pack there is really no reason why you shouldn't tow your two horses - Ford limit the weight on manuals because most people can't drive properly and abuse the clutch too much - as long as you are a competent driver you'll have no probs.

If it's an auto you can have a 2300kg tow pack fitted and this easily covers what you'd want to do - even a three horse angle loader if you want. It is a good idea to have a transmission cooler fitted if you are towing over long distances. It is also a good idea to manually select 3rd gear with the auto as soon as any incline is encountered - most problems with the auto trans overheating is caused by "lugging" in overdrive for long periods.

The price sounds very good - good luck with it.

Oh, and LPG is not a problem at all.

what do they usually go for? Is that a lot of kms for 2002? it has been serviced reguarly.
