My mate has an auIII ute and it leaks water near the bottom of the steering colum when it rains. It is obviusly running down from the firewall or windscreen but it doest seem to stand out.
Any leads???

Windscreens are a known problem, pay the 20 extra and get O'briens to pull it out and re-seal. they give a lifetime waranty on leaks.

Common problem with the AU. Its most likely coming through the firewall somewhere. Mine does it, and Ive heard of so many others that do it aswell

Is it a manual ?
If so, they're known to suffer from cracked pedal boxes. The firewall can also crack. Get these two bits checked out. I had mine fixed a short time back.

How much water do people get in just for curiosity. And where's a good place to seal it. Cos my drivers side fills up pretty nicely

When I go around sharp lefts in the rain, I get a dribble on my foot. Always freaks the hell outta me, but to answer the question, its normal, just an AU thing.

Add two more to the list. A AU2 XR6 ute and AU2 XR8 rebel. Both man. Only leaks under acceleration on to our right foot, from above the brake. Have looked but can't find the leak. will chack the windsceen and pedel box later.

If it's not the pedal box, it's could be
- a crack in the firewall, - a drip where the wiring goes thru (the firewall) and the rubber gromet thing is loose (causing leaks) or - the heater hose leaking. These seem to be the most common AU water related problems that I've heard about.

My ute used to leak water on my feet when it rained heavy.
Took the advice of the above link and haven't had the problem since.

Agree with the last link. Followed it and now can get into my car in winter without a half inch of water in the footwell...
