Default E-Series rims on AU

Hi all, i was just wondering of E-Series offset wheels fit on AU's? I ask this as i thought i saw an AU the other day with snowflake rims on the back of it. do they fit, or just on the back?

Offsets all wrong (by about 40mm)

They can be bolted on but I wouldn't say they fit, not well anyway.

You may have noticed the apparent track increase of this particular AU?

this is true, they did stick out a fair bit. The main reason i ask is that i would be putting them on the back when i take it down the strip, and E-Series stockies are a fair bit cheaper and easier to get a hold of than AU's, so it appears to me anyway. so, would they be safe enough when used for this purpose?

I've seen plenty of AUs with early Ford rims - they fill the rear guards very nicely and can stick out just a tad on the fronts. I don't think you'd be able to fit anything wider than a 7" without encountering guard rubbing.

There is an Au in my suburb that has a set of old school cragar SS rims, that stick out about and inch past the guards, front and back...

If its for the track only, and your car isn't lowered a lot, then you should be fine with some E-series wheels.

well i had my old ea ghia rims on a au sr wagon only problem we ran into was the centre was off a mm or 2 and when bolted on they require abit of a bash to get them off(nothing major and no damage was made or caused doing so)

but yes they wont just fit straight up of course :P

thanks heaps guys, not to worried about the looks. i just wanted a couple for track work, as i ran at the AFF Nats on the only set i have, which are my good 17" Pirelli's and i scuffed em up pretty badly. they cost me $280 each, so i would like them to last a bit longer!! cheers

You wouldnt believe it but there is one here too - Meteorite AU3 Forte with a C2R kit and EL GT copies. Doesnt look too bad, would look better if the rims were bigger though.

they fit as has been said, but i wouldn't use them on the fronts for track work as i have seen a few au's with them and the front guard has been bent out pretty badly from tyres scraping when cornering

I reckon put the tyres on the back and then go for a drive round the block and see if they rub, if they dont its all good.

I had a set of EF offset 8" rims on my XR6, and every bump cut the tyre on the guard. You would be able to get away with 6" or 7" easy.

Why not just buy a set of stock AU rims and save yourself any aggravation:

Probably even cheaper at any wrecker. Surely they are not hard to get hold of?

Must be demand from the cabbies.

Bid on the ones on eBay. They were only $49 the set last time I looked.

i haven't got any, even if i did im in NT anyway, the best thing to do is probably try a wreckers, you may even find some cheap au wheels while you're at it, i'm pretty sure you could probably find cheap 15 or 16" tyres in melbourne anyway even if you got a couple of cheap rims from somewhere, plenty of wrecked e series and au's out there

I've been thinking about putting a set of DL LTD rims on my 99Forte. What do you reakon that'd look like? I used to own a DL LTD, and just loved those mirrored rims.
Would they even fit an AU?

i might try a few wreckers on the weekend, but i do recall some story going around that they were not selling 'stockies' to young people as all we would use them for is to do illegal street drags and burouts. is there any truth to this?

No they won't. Read the rest of this thread. Offsets changed from AU onwards.
