Lightbulb Queensland To Consider 30km/hr Speed Limits!!!

The Brisbane City Council ,Deputy Mayor, David Hinchcliffe, wants 20-30km/hr speed limits in The Valley and Caxton Street. To stop drunks being killed/runover.
Whatever happened to people taking responsibilty for their own actions ? To much of the nanny mentality from pollies.

This give me the Urtha kitts big time
Correct what the hell happened to people taking responsibility for the own actions or should that be inactions
You drive at 20 or 30 kmh down thru the Valley or Caxton St the drunk imbiciles will have a slower moving target to chuck stuff at or jump on the cars
If they jump out , stagger out in front of you it is their fault if you can't handle the moonshine stay off the stuff.
You get absolutely plasted at your own doing fall off the foot path where you should be tough titties and you should be made to pay for the damage to the car you hit as well - the sooner people take responsibilities for the own stupid actions the better
I have delt with the drunk idiots in a security capacity and the sooner they fine there twits the better, they cause the crap and you just have to smile and take it , then smack them in the head when no one is looking - whinging gooses.
Faunicate me drunk what the hell are we becoming , a cotton wool society

This is bullshit anyway. Your in traffic in those areas sometimes so much that going 30km/h would be an increase.

But yeah, less obscure ****** up speed limits and more driver awareness.

I'm guessing those areas are in the city somehwere? We have had a blanket low speed limit in the centre of Sydney for ages now - irony is you never actually have the opportunity to exceed it anyway as there is always so much traffic in the city.

At that speed you could easly just watch all the fluff walking down the footpath and run over the person on the crosswalk.

The slower the speed limit the less i pay attention and the more comfortable the pedestrians get with the traffic

If everyone just did 0 then no one would get run over unless they got a good run up. :

Why dont they build footpaths with fences on them.... That way the drunks cant get onto the road... a drunk could still have an incident with a car if they want to even at 20kph.... I would prefer lower speed limits so when you are cruising past @ 20, you dont get tooted from behind for perving... ;)

Why not work at having less drunk people staggering around in the middle of the street as they are the people in the wrong, rather than punishing people in the right.

Brisbane City Council are on par with our corrupt Gold Coast City Council.

http://www.andrewbartlett.com/blog/?p=1168

Protect drunk and disorderly citizens by making ordinary citizens risk their property and safety by travelling at very slow speeds.

Have the council got this the right way round?! idiots.

I think all 50km/h zones could be 40 zones, but 30?? thats too far, In school zones I would not complain.

But I would agree 100% to a levy to build a Pick up Set Down Loop in all old schools first. Most old Schools have the room for this, why dont they change the old schools?
I say old Schools because I'm sure they are already doing this in new schools.

I would also agree to Higher Speed Limits on Freeway's at certain times, example - Midnight to 5 am should be lifted to 120km/h or even 130

He is just trying to get his name known for future elections.

The problem is that there are still drunks in other places than outside pubs. Last saturday night I was doing 45 down a suburban bak street (50 zone) and a drunk girl (I reckon about 15-16) sumbled off the foot path nearly into the path of my car. I swerved to the opposite side of the road to make sure there was no chance of hitting her. I hope she got a smack over the head from her parents for being drunk (although I doubt it happened). Make the wusses take responsibility for themselves.

What about going back to the source of the problem, which is the pubs continuing to serve patrons who are intoxicated. It is illegal in Queensland to do so.

The way things are going, pretty soon it will be illegal to touch the accelerator pedal.

Ah the perils of Labor Govts..... if the public won't conform voluntarily to mummy's rules, we'll damned well make them, with punitive action and tougher rules for all; even if it's just the few imbeciles causing the problem.

Althought I agree with the bold type I cannot agree with whom you seem to place blame.

You do realise it is the Local Government Councillor who is suggesting this for streets within his division? There has been no real word as to whether or not it would be supported yet. It just managed to get the kind of media attention all Councillors would like when launching a new idea for their division.

Granted, the majority of the BCC councillors are ALP (including Hinchliffe), but they have a powerful Liberal Lord Mayor. Does that mean it is a Liberal or Labor Local Government?

Suggesting that it is the fault of Labor GOVERNMENTS may be a little misguiding.

It is a labour majority council and if the Labor members decide to do it , there is nothing the Lord Mayor can do to stop it. Council is a nursery for Labour aspirants.

Ahh - you mean - THE DANGER PEDAL

Drunks are no good - crashing cars when they drive them, getting into fights, now stumbling into traffic... why don't they just introduce prohibition, or stop serving alcohol after certain hours...

Booze must flow all night!

Anyways if a drunk hits my car they will be paying for the damage. Just like the cow that walked into the path of my mates car. The dumb chick tried to sue him and lost.

Roads are for cars, not pedestrians. They can stop a lot more easier than a car too.

Man if you were in the bubble rap business at the moment in Australia you would be making a killing, selling the stuff to all the Nancy Poofter Politicians who somehow got into office.

Who are the F**kwits who voted for these Monkeys at election time anyway, this country is getting totally ******** up.

I am sick of hearing about every single road death and how high the road toll is throe the media and the latest laws that are going the help stop the carnage, I Just don’t give a ****** any more, Just about all of them are Dead because of there own stupidity. Then because of that the rest of us have to suffer under these Bulls**t laws that do nothing to stop road deaths.

One reason why I never get all excited over pedestrian safety ratings many do. I dont want a car thats going to help some idiot drunk who illegally walked infront of me living so he can claim compensation and damages even though he is proven in the wrong. May sound far fetched and harsh but Ive seen it happen. Simmilar here its upto them to decide if they like there life before they hit the drink and if they cant control themselves then dont drink.

Unfortunately, making drunks responsible for their own actions is ridiculous.
They're ****ed. They don't know the difference between their pants and a cubicle.

The law is there to protect people from themselves.

But despite that, I think 30km/h limits is stupid. 40 is the lowest we should go.

Perhaps they shouldn't be drinking then. Also a lot of places have no idea about the responsible service of alcohol.

I drink heaps and I still don't run all over the road and cause problems. Drunk or not, you are responsible for your own actions and it should be enforced like that.

Unless a car jumps onto the footpath and hits you, it's your fault if you get hit by a car.
