Default Cruise Control Issue

Driving back tonight, had the cruise control set at 100 clicks, set it to coast as I went through a roundabout then hit the button again to get it to go back up to speed. I noticed it hesitated twice, went to speed up then dropped back, then did it again, and then when it finally did work out what it was doing, it took a hell of a long time to get to 100 again - far longer than it should have.

Any ideas on what it could be?
