Default Brake Caliper Paint Colours

Hi all,

Wanting to paint the callipers sometime and wondering what colour. I'm leaning towards red. Just saw a close up of the Tickford 17's that JC sold a little while ago, and I thought the red looked really good.

Red will go well with the Sparkling Burgandy wagon but what about the Congo Green Sedan?

Pics for reference!
Wagon

Sedan

Cheers,

GK

You can come over and help me do it young fella! We'll paint your grille black whilst we're at it! LOL!

Still want the red though, especially for the wagon. Perhaps blue for the sedan, but JC's in red looked really nice!

I was only allowed to paint Tracey's calipers black with silver hubs, i wanted to do red or blue, but as it is her car, well you know............
But i did get away with painting the Festiva's calipers blue.

I did mine black to match the body colour, and will then do the Herrod logos in silver to highlight them a bit.

I reckon on sparkling burgundy, go a silver or black, bright red would look weird next to the colour of the car.

Black, silver or the body colour. On both cars. Red will look awful against the burgundy. Matching the body colour would look very smick.

Does anyone have pics of red calipers with a red car?

Perhaps black then, as they are currently the stock silver and don't stand out much!

Maybe someone will post some pics that help me make up my mind! LOL!

Cheers,

Heres an older pic that shows them the best..

And a newer pic, shows they're pretty subtle.

How about sparkling burgundy brakes on the congo car, and congo brakes on the burgundy car? Personally, I reckon the Ford blue colour I used on the wagon looks heaps better than the red on the XR8. Blue goes with everything. BTW - I only used the $3 export paint from supercheap/bunnings, and it is still there from when I applied it 3 years ago. You do NOT need to buy the $15 cans of calliper paint.

I just bought this 2 days ago, having it in mind for the rusted parts of the SR rda rotors. Whilst they're off, I could do a number on the calipers too!

JC, can you post me a pic of the sedan and Wagon caliper pics please?

BTW, if blue goes with everything, why should blue and green never be seen? How does the rest of that saying go? LOL! Without something or other in between or something or other?

So many colours, so many choices! LOL!

Here's a good write up of the procedure and some good shots of red on red, bright red car though, not darker Sparkling Burgandy! Not sure I like the blue though!

Kinda disagree JC, I used the cheap stuff too and it came off within a week. I used VHT paint with 3 coats, then purposely hosed it to see if it would come off - not a bit. Looks perfect.

Each to their own though.

I also use "Import" paint on hubs and calipers and have had no issues with it.

I just took a pic of a disc that was painted in Feb '06 and was replaced in Nov '06.

I realise that calipers get hotter but the "Import" paint was fine on them as well.

I only repainted them because I'd fitted new hubs and rotors.

Not sure why you had trouble?

That's poor preparation, not the fault of the paint. Even the best paint in the world won't stick if the surface is dusty/greasy/rusty etc. The second lot probably stuck because the first lot peeled off taking all the loose crap with it.

Silver hub/gold caliper...

sorry George, don't have a close up of car colour and contrasting caliper.

I originally had mine red and it looked a bit daggy against the maroon...

I like this look ... that came up well.

If i did mine ... it'd either black ... or maybe EGAS green (as in rocker cover green colour).

Also this is what I used to clean up the calipers and hubs etc. I just had them at home but im pretty sure they are only like $5 or something from the hardware and just whack it in a drill and away you go. Much much easier, quicker and more thorough than a wire brush etc.
