Default Solicitor/ Lawyer required, can anyone recommend?

Hi All,

I am looking to use a solicitor or lawyer in Sydney who has a good understanding of insurance and automotive law- I thought that someone here must have used such a person at some stage.

I need to sort out an insurance claim (see thread "Why me??" in the X series forum) as soon as possible but require some legal advise/ help.

If anyone can offer a recommendation, I'd be very happy.

Cheers,

Jamie

Jamie, if no suggestions are forthcoming, there are solicitors who advertise as specialists in this particular field. As im sure you could appreciate, its a lucrative market.

Have a look see in your local directory (of course, if no suggestions come forward here).

Jim Nikopoulos of Burwood. He's a compensation lawyer and I've heard that he is quite good.

Thanks guys,

As luck would have it, a local lawyer has turned up who my mother in law (to be) used to work for.....only problem is shes Scottish!! Looks like it'll cost me a pretty penny!

I'll update the other thread with the outcome good or bad.

Cheers,

Jamie

Mate I had problems with royal Sun Alliance about 7 years ago where they refused to pay after my car was stolen and burnt for disclosure reasons. I went and saw a solicitor about sorting the claim. The problem was the car was worth about 10000 in a payout figure the solicitors quoted me $5000-8000 for representation and the car was under finance. Do the maths even if the car is not under finance. If I lost the case I would have to then pay solicitors cost. So I bit the bullet and spent about 6months paying for a car that I didn't have, and couldn't afford to by another car until I paid that one. I suppose depending on the value of your car, the circumstances, and the legal bill would depend on if it is worth it. I think the hardest thing was walking away and allowing the B**TARDS to get away with it.

That is really harsh- what a crappy thing to happen- I feel for you. The only good thing about this case is that should I get screwed over, I will make sure that said company responsible for the accident gets screwed too. I will have workplace onto them quicker than you can say boo.
if I lose out, I will ensure that they suffer the consequences too- it will cost them an awful lot more but i really hope that it doesn't go that far.

I'm up for about $350 per hour but she came recommended by the missus' mother who used to work for them so hopefully she'll come good and not cost me the earth- sometimes you are better paying good money- you get what you pay for.

mere details! I'm sure you could figure it out!

I had a wee look there before- the lawyer I found is attached to the Law Society.

I just wasnt sure how you meant by being 'attached' to the law society.

Being a member Is not a good or bad thing mate. Im just saying that all a solicitor need to to become a member is pay the membership fee, its not a membership you 'earn' out of being a good lawyer or anything.

Just thought they were maybe making a big deal out of being a member of the law society, when its of no real Significance.
