It used to be that way. These days the rule is no u-turn unless specifically signed. I too speak from experience on that one.

I must say though, it is good to see someone prepared to just "cop one on the chin" & learn from it without bitching & moaning about it.

That gives you a big thumbs up in my book!

I always chuck your turns from turn lanes. I thought it was perfectly legal as long as you don't do it where there unbroken lines or there is a "NO U TURN" signed posted.

News to me.

I thought the same as you did i always thought that if theres a sign which says NO U TURN then thats illegal... ive had a fair share of fines myself (for a girl) and ive only had my licence 3 yrs.. lost my licence twice... keep getting fines for speeding and defects for tyres from doing burnouts...

in NSW I *think* they are permitted at intersections unless there is a sign that says No U-Turn (No U-Turn permitted across any unbroken centreline). They arent' permitted at traffic llights unless there is a sign that says they are.

Good to know Qld is different since I'm only 20 km south of the border.

On that point I reckon the demerit and rules should be made a national format rather than state based.

The N.T. has never had speed limits on the open road until this year..the N.t. has never had a demerit points system until soon...guess which govt will not be in power after the next election...oh and the law is changing for dui it used to be .05 to .08 was a one hundred on the spot fine..guess whats next?

I would prefer that OZ was what the N.T used to be.

Don't see how voting against them for this will change it, yes it was dumb and no I don't know anything about the politics up there but its the same as the GST and high interest rates. Both parties promised they wouldn't do it and look at what we have!!!

I'm sure we would all prefer the oz of pre-radar, with NT's laws. Perhaps we should get together and form our own party, TAMCS - The Average Mans Common Sense Party. How hard can it be!!!, lol

The opposition leader of the clp..jodeen carney has publicly stated if they get into power the limits are gone..the backlash against labour has already started with ppl rewriting the 130 signs to read no limit and are spray painting some roads with words of severe derision against the labour mob.

There is a thread in here about it.

I like the idea of that party.

ok, clarification is needed here. Previously you have said just "intersection" now you say "interesection with lights". Which is it?

I also thought that you can do U-turns unless a sign said you couldn't. From memory, the only signs that indicate U-turns are usually "U TURN MUST GIVE WAY" signs and/or the U-arrow on the road in a turning lane. I guess that's it?

Learn something new every day...

I thought that unless it was signed not to do a U turn then it was ok... I guess you learn something new everyday!

My first and only fine was a parking offence on my L's. ($120)
My gran wouldn't let me pay it because she said that it was her fault for letting me park there, as she was the supervising driver, even though we were both in the wrong for not reading the sign correctly.
lol what got me was that we were out of the car 3 mins tops! That was just my luck though lol Its changed since then though, i always get a park where i want... that is legal of course! (touch wood lol)

Anyways good on you for copping it sweet

I know that differnet states have different rules on u-turns, but I have always been under the impression that in Vic you can do them pretty much anywhere, except double lines and no u-turn signs.

Anyone know for sure?

Apparently traffic lights aren't an intersection, they're traffic lights. So you can make a U-turn at any intersection, unless it is signed not to. But you can only make a U-turn at traffic lights if there is a sign saying you can.

Why have signs at some traffic lights saying no U-turns permitted? That's why I'm confused.
