Default Toyota Tarago now with over 200kw

Well i dont know weather to laugh or cry over this article

http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mell...25727D0006C50B

Tarago now comes with a 202kw/340nm V6 and has equal power to Toyota's 'sporty' Aurion- sure it still drives like an oversized corolla but jeez 200+ kw.

Ill guess ill have to come to grips that old Tarago now has enough grunt to make my AU Falcon look like a Camira. In fact when you think about it the Tarago has more grunt and is probably faster down the quarter than an VT I SS Commodore or an EL XR8 whilst using probably half the fuel- makes you worry about losing to one in a traffic light GP with one now doesn't

One thing to remember, it has more power, but that doesnt mean its faster. I cant beleive so many people react this way :P remember theres more to a moving car than just an engine, theres drive type, transmittion and differential gearing. Its still a van, and is geared accordingly.

That said, its probably no slouch either. 200kW is 200kW, but think of the power all the big rigs have, that doesnt mean they'd cain your new XR6.

All power figures will go up. Ours will too, just gotta be patient.

"The VVT-i V6 is the same engine that powers the Toyota Aurion and Lexus RX350, and will soon also appear in the RAV4 compact SUV."

What the fook? You've got to be joking. 200kw's in a go-cart? :

The 2.0 Injected Camira actually went alright, even with an auto it would spin through second gear in the wet. Still a POS though.

Tarago will go ok for a people mover.

But 200kw/340nm for nearly 1900kgs ? Cant imagine the performance to be scary .... as you would be looking at 2 tonne mark with a driver and fuel

200kw/340nm> But where is this power made?

You probably need to ring it’s neck to get anything out of it, unlike the Ford and even commo 6’s that are quite responsive at the low revs.

200kw from a tarago? Holy crap that's a big improvement. Torque is ok but more than 340Nm is probably needed for a vehicle of that size and capacity (eight seater).

imagine that thing in a corner with 200+kws

scary indeed

the price will kill these from selling like you'd part with 50K when you can mod a xr6t with that kinda cash

if you look at the features list you will see why they are that kind of money. nothing ford has compares... toyota have really gone over the top with fancy stuff. electric doors... electric foldaway back seat... headlights that turn dependant of steering wheel angle and speed... back seats more comfortable than most peoples lounge chairs...

When's the last time you looked at prices???????????????????????????????

I went in and looked at an xr6T last week. I optioned it with leather, and 18's. Price including ORC came to $52,965!!!

What money is left for mods??????????? A K&N filter???

Seriously, as a people mover, and for what it is, it'll be great for the people who need it. Thats been the worst thing about toyota's range of people movers for so long, they have been wayyyyy under powered!
If you wanted something to cart the kids you either lived with a gutless tarago, or bought a cruiser.

Can't compare a 5 seat turbo performance sedan to a purpose built people mover. And 200kw............. yeah... and??? Anyone who's driven any of the quicker 6's like VE 195kw, BF2, aurion, camry, pathfinder, prado, 380, they all get up and go when you want them to, and climb hills and overtake rather effortlessly compared to older models, but they are hardly road going missiles, nor does the power make them unsafe or difficult to drive. I think it just increases the drivability. A Tarago with 8 adult passengers, fuel and some luggage would easily tip the 2.5 Tonne mark.

Funny, VW has had the 170kw 3.2 Transporter/Multivan for a couple of years. Top speed just over 200km/h. Word is the 3.6 should be released late this year with 200kw. Funny thing is, the TDI kills the V6 off the line, 400Nm at bugger all revs will do that. Oh yeah, the Multivan V6 Highline Executive 6 speed manual 4 Motion is about $80,000! The previous model had a version called the Business. $150,000 for a people mover!

I think they will have a reasonable % of buyers pay the extra 5 grand od for the V6 and 6 speed Auto. I think it looks good for a people mover.

The bus would be pretty peaky to drive I would think, 200kW or not. With that weight, torque talks.

Dont count on that, i think the 4cyl ones feel like they have plenty of power, I am sure the 200kw version doesnt feel gutless
