Default When are demerit points removed?

Hi guys, I hold a NSW license and have been done speeding a few times with a total of 8 demerit points on my record. Now the first of these offences occurred more than 3 years ago but the points are still there. Shouldnt those points be removed?
I thought each offence was dealt with seperately meaning those 3 points would be removed leaving 5?
Is it now the case that I have to wait 3 years from the last offence to get all my points removed?

And yes I have checked the RTA website and it makes no mention of this.... none that I could find anyway.

From RTA NSW Website ...
Accumulating points
A driver who has not committed any offences has zero points. When an offence that carries demerit points is committed, the points are added to the licence holder’s driving record. If a certain number of demerit points are accumulated, their licence will be suspended or application for renewal refused. The number of points accumulated varies for different licence types as follows:

Full unrestricted licence holders (gold, silver or magenta) - 12 demerit points in a three year period.
Provisional P2 licence - 7 points.
Provisional P1 licence - 4 points.
Unrestricted licence with a good behaviour period - 2 points within the term of the good behaviour period

Are you sure youe last fine was more than 3 years ago?

possible that the points weren't applied until you paid the fine?
(I'm only guessing that you had 28 days to pay the fine, so the points weren't applied til you paid it)

Well it still shows up on my list of offences as January 2004... still you could be right.
Now that I recall....
The offence occurred in January but I didnt get a fine in the mail til late April with -14days to pay..... nicely done hey. I then had to pay $50 extra as it had been send to debt recovery who wouldnt waive it.

I just checked mine. I have a full unrestricted NSW licence .

" You have a total of 2 demerit point(s) on your licence. Your last recorded offence was on 21 November 2003.
Both licence classes will be suspended if your total demerit points reach or exceed 12. "

I read somewhere on the site that the points are added when you pay the fine , I paid this fine in December 2003.

What are demerit points?...... oh thats rite, we are getting them soon......

I always thought that the points are removed after 12 months from when you were booked. I am probably wrong though. Havent had to worry about them for quite a while now.

Well it would seem in N.S.W. that it’s a least 3 years and 2 months. :

Well I always knew it was 3 years but a little uncertain whether it was 3 years from each offence OR 3 years from last offence.

its 3 full years from each fine so technically its 4 years to clear from date of offence,i just went through all this argument with QTA last year, never made any sence to me there excuses but thats what happenede to me.i argued with them that it shouls be 3 years and one day to clear and they did not want to hear.

Thats it!. Thanks for jogging my memory.

I had a similar argument with our (NSW) RTA many years ago, only way back then it used to be 2 years, which turned out to be 3 before points were reinstated

Ok... if you got booked on the 1st of Jan 2000 your 3 years would be up on the 1/1/2003.

But by the RTA's thinking a 'full year' would be 12 months AFTER the offence, thereby making the points reinstatement 1/1/2004.

Like nicholas said it's a weird way to do it and you may have to go into the RTA to get it explained more fully, and then, like me, come away confused and annoyed. But that happens everytime I go anywhere near the RTA.

Yep. But remember the organisation we're dealing with here. Most things they do only make sense to them and politicians.
