how to get rid of mice

Ok I desperately need your help people as you all know we’ve had a bit of rain in Sydney recently, that combined with my neighbor finally mowing his lawn has caused me to become over run with mice, not inside the house, but in the cavities and up in the roof, last night the little pr/cks were constructing something in the cavity just behind my bead head

This problem has been increasing for the last week or so, I have done the usual like throwing those little blue baits around which normally give me 1 night of a blue bait round robin, mouse soccer tournament before all is quiet, but this time we seem to have a world cup and I’m going insane, so much so, last night I ratted through the garage found the demtel ultrasonic rodent deterrent and ran an extension lead up in the roof to above my bead room and left that on all night, still no better.

I need your help what have you guys used that has worked and worked well, I’m not against hurting these little - - - - rs I want them to pay for me not getting any sleep for the last few nights

Get a wicked mousing cat. And a dog that eats em too.

When we first bought our house there were lots of mice. We pulled apart the shed which had been converted into a stable and there were litterally hundreds of mice running around. The next day me and dad went back up there to finish the job and there were mice halves and heads everywhere. Cats do work. We havent had any mice problems ever since. And that was like January 2001.

Just set heaps of traps as well. Sometimes they can dodge them but theyre pretty dumb. Put them just at the entrance where they come out from behind a cupboard or a hole or something and theyll walk right onto them and get done.

Good luck getting rid of them mate.

Dont laugh, one night i came home pi55ed, and coudnt stand the birds in the roof making a ruckess any more, so i threw the cat into the roof [ through the manhole] for a couple of days, problem solved.

Best stuff I've used... Tomcat II rat and mouse blocks. They contain a heavier concentration of active than most others and do the job well around these parts.
Blocks are the easiest method, just crack the manhole and chuck them in! No need to stuff around with Pellets or Grain. We sell them here in two sizes- 800gm ($24.20) or 1.8kg ($52.25)

Bromokill isnt bad either, green blocks that do rats as well. Most supermarkets sell it

We've currently got a bit of a mouse problem...got out the toaster this morning, just about to drop the bread in when i spotted a bloody mouse looking up at me! little bastard

We have 4 cats and still have mouse issues, i think it must be that time of year.

They will come inside when it's either too wet or too dry for them, they are after water & food

I guess a quick fix might be one of those pest removalists, not sure what they charge but

id go for the pest controller.
you dont want to lay a heap of bait out only to have rotting mouse carcuss letting off tasty smells all through the house.
you kill a mouse, you have to remove the body, that means finding the body.

Yeah agreed.

Baits are simple, but they will crawl into the tightest of spots to cark it, then you will have to deal with seeking out the boddies or allowing the heat and flies to decompose them gradually.

Buy a heap of traps and some cheap cheese. set em up all around the joint. set em b4 bed, check in the morning, then set em in morning and check after work.

will probably take a week or 2, but then you will get them all. oh and try to find all they entry and exit points and block them up.

If you use traps (obviously a little harder when its in the roof I guess) don't put cheese as the cheese gets yucky in the heat.
Use Peanut butter, it doesn't seem to be affected by the heat and the mice actually are quite attracted to it

Hate mice..

Considered getting another cat for when we had a mouse issue (which hopefully doesn't occur again), but then it would be a case of the mouse eats our food, the cat eats the mouse and then the dog eats the cat..

But then who deals with the rest of the mice :evil_laug

Baits actually kill them then dry out the carcass, so there is no smell or flies etc to gather over it

I've used the blocks, but sometimes the rodents carry them away. I now wire the blocks to a piece of wood, so they can't carry the block away, and possibly drop it where a dog can get it. I think they were rats as the blocks are reasonably large. Dead rodents in the wall cavities can be a problem. I've had to repaint a room to cover up the smell. I tried lowering our pet chihuahua on a harness, but there was a cross beam in the way. Before I get flamed for mistreating the killer chihuahua, let me say she loves that sort of thing, wagged tail the whole time, now when I say "where's the mouse?" she runs to the manhole.(roof access chamber for the politically correct)

Yeah - there is a bit of a mouse plague at the moment!!
We've tried the different baits but if anything I think it turned them into super mutant mice ...... always sounded like they were building cities and skyscrapers in the roof!!

In the end it was the good old mouse traps that did the job. Took a while but we eventually got them all - parents and the kiddies (they ventured out looking for food when mum and dad didn't come home!).

Sorry to those who think it sounds cruel but when you find mice ***** everywhere in your kitchen you start to just not want to eat at home!! It's horrible!!
Oh - and did I mention that they started to not even give a crap if we were IN the kitchen?!! Just ran around in front of us like they owned the frigin place.

Bromakill wheat pellits in the red and white can , its full of diaxin so whatch were you put it , very effective and they hardly smell atll , put water outside the house a few metres away and they normally leave and search for it , keep cats and dogs away.

If you had a cat that will do the trick quick smart. Believe me I had pet mice and they often got taken out if the garage door was left open and when I first had them I left the cage on the back doorstep. Bye bye mice! Even a domesticated, well-fed cat has a taste for mice.

Other than that light them up with a can of deo and lighter. Common household items in most homes :

Traps are good, i file the locking arm down until i get it trigger happy at the smell of the little bludgers.

Another good idea that did work in SA during the mouse plauge a while back was this,

a bucket half filled with water or similar , probabaly a bigger plastic trash can half filled with water.

then on the shelf above the secured a old wie bottle with the end leaning over the shelf and above the the bucket.

they then slammed the empty bottle full of good smelling yummy food for the micekins, but also geased up the end of the bottle on the outside.

so along comes mr mouse, smells a meal to hard to resist, climbs out on the bottle to get to the end where the food is ( even stick some out for them to see ) hit the slippery stuff tying to get the feed and plonk into the bucket for a swim.

this method keeps catching them all night without re loading the trap and works.

as others have said we have a cat and no mice problems.
