xr headlights

finaly upgraded form an EB to an AU II XR6 Ute
the ute came with the head light covers which i took off. anyway i was wondering if anyone else had done this and what they have used to cover the screw holes?

Yes. took mine off. Just left the holes there.

my bar is getting resprayed shortly so they a filling the holes for me, but a neighbour screwed countersunk screws into the hole and painted them with a touch up pen. Thank god his car is black, you can barely see it!

on a dark car it may be ok but on the silver it stands out like dogs balls

im thinking trying to find some small pips (a little smaller than what you would find covering the screws on a light switch) to fill the holes and just knock em up with some touch up paint...

I've got the same problem with mine atm!
A mate of mine said to use bog to fill em in, go over it with some touch up paint and clear coat, will be doin it soon. Then again there is the more expensive solution in getting the whole bar resprayed like darby said.

You could use a smaller version of the plastic inserts that are used on the AU-BF ute tubs when the tonneau cover clips are removed...if you go to a place that sells/repairs aluminium windows/sliding doors, there is a small version of those inserts that's used in the top of sliding door frames to stop them rattling in the wind. I reckon they'd be just about the right size for the job...check it out! Cheers Linz.

on a silver car a small pop rivet would work well i think.

I'd use a set of headlight covers and the screws would fill the holes just nicely ...

i was down at ford today and asked to see the plugs they use for the taunea cover.
1 thier too big
2 when inserted they expand on the inside

going down to clark rubber tomorrow its along shot but ill give it a crack. then maybe to bunnings to look in the door section

Yes, the tonneau plugs ARE too big and I'm pretty sure Bunneys won't have the sliding door anti rattle plugs, as I said you'd have to go to a place that makes or repairs aluminium sliding doors to check out the smaller plugs (or to save all that running around, put the suckers back on!!)

getting the bar resprayed would be at most $200. just fill the holes yourself and get it resprayed.

On my AU when i got a slimline plate on the front, i filled it with selleys putty and used the touch up paint to cover. You wouldn't even know the holes were there.

ok so i was doing a cashy on sat and i was going through the old mans screw box and i found some plugs. apprently they push into the back of self taping wood screws. painted them up and got a few pics

honestly, id be using putty (or bog) sand it back so it sits all flush and looks like it was never there, then respray the bar. in the end it would look a lot neater, and no one would ever know the holes were there. IMO

that doesnt look too bad and with it like that you still have the option of refitting the covers....

just leave it like that....

what about some of that knead it stuff sets hard like bog but not as messy.

I took mine off and have just left the holes, But I have been told silicone, and then a little bit of the cars touch up paint. Gotta look better than them holes

Paint won't stick to silicone :(
