Red face ok,i'll admit i know...

f--k all really,not silly, had and owned 14 v8's in the past.but i read some reasonably good build sheets[especially late model stuff]that when it came down to dyno sheets ect. were actually surprisingly low. was i always living in adreamworld[probably so]or were the manual supplied figures [haynes ect.] amplified some what?

I think he's saying he has had motors build using spec sheets as referance and was supposed to get a certain horsepower with those combos but they were lies on the dynos.

My advice - dynos are only good for tuning mate.

I think he's saying that V8 motor output figures are somewhat "exagerated" in manuals and sales brochures etc as to what the "real" output is............."but I could be wrong?"

damn, seems i am posing a bit of a riddle.[not intended].i understand an auto looses approx 20%,manual maybe 5 to 10%,but according to my old manual, a bog stock 351c made 250hp,that would be approx 200kw[in early seventy's].just trying to get an honest 250hp on a dyno sheet doesn't seem that easy, from what i've been reading here. unless your gonna spend 7g+.

that's where i was heading,cheers,seen a lot of guys spending a fair bit of cash ,only to be getting maybe 180-200 on the dyno

What driveline is behind the motor mate?
my brothers clevo made 540 horse on an engine dyno and 410 on the chassis dyno at the nats. thats through a 9" and a c4 with 8" race converter.

Cant really predict drivetrain loss with a % and factor in you get some happy dyno's spitting out thousands of free horse and hungry dynos that wont give you ****.

All he is asking is why its so hard to get 200 horse at the wheels out of a clevo without having to fork out 7 grand and why are they making so little if they are quoted 250 horse from factory.

I put it down to age of the motor and driveline loss. still dont know what driveline he's running though

I agree though give him a break he has an honest question not the easiest to understand but its an honest question and he's asking for help.

227rwhp in a well set up 1600kg car will run damn close to 13.5 ET, the numbers add up.
A stock BA XR6T will NOT run a 13.5 so yes, it is certainly very possible. Just a simple matter of numbers. Sometimes setup, driveline and light weight can overcome brute power far more effectively than people think.

The mechanic that used to work with me when I first got my racecar always quoted " Cubic Dollars make Cubic H/P " but when you get to a certain stage "Cubic Dollars X 2 make Cubic H/P".

Roughly translated "Spend $5,000 to get 250 H/P , Spend 50% more $ to get 5-10% more H/P" . It's like a Sliding Scale .

(Hope you can understand where I'm coming from)

Yep, its a principle of diminishing returns.
Its like climbing Mt Everest. Its pretty certain that the first 500m's up is going to be a lot easier than the last 500m's up. You've only traveled 500m both times but those last 500m probably took 100x more time and 100x more effort. Same as chasing power. The first 50rwkw increase is going to be a lot easier and cheaper than the last 50rwkw increase.
