Default How can you prevent wedding Car ribbons from rubbing on the paintwork

Tomorrow I will be using the GT-P as a wedding car. I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to prevent the ribbon from creating a rub mark on the grill surround or the bonnet.

I was thinking of getting some white flannelette between the ribbon and the paintwork, but any other ideas would be appreciated.

Regards

Steven

The simplest way is a bit of 3M bonnet stone guard tape - I don't put the whole sheet on but have been cutting up the same sheet each time I've used it for this purpose (twice now). The sheet should last about 6 goes at this rate which is more than I'm likely to do.

Russ Thanks for the reply,

It's for Matt from G & D's wedding tomorrow.

To quote an annoying TV Add "Where do you get it?"

Thanks

Most Autorice stores should carry it - ring your local one and check.

Cheers

Easier method. I ran a HSV for two years doingw eddings every weekend.

Get some Megiuars Yellow Wax PASTE. Apply liberally to bonnet and let dry thoroughly. Apply second coat. Fit ribbon and then wipe off excess either side of the ribbon.

Also, make the ribbon tight and so that when you shut the bonnet it pulls the ribbon that extra bit and preloads it.

No marks. Guaranteed. And cheap.

Use silk ribbons only. They don't mark your paint.

The silk ribbons are a necessity. Agreed. But the damage also occurs from dirt getting between the ribbon and the paint. the wax keeps these from scratching the paint.

best way is to bend up a piece of metal with holes in it that bolts/screws to the factory holes under the hood and pokes out forward between the grille and hood, then folds 90degrees skyward witha hole in the end to thread the ribbon through. It wont get in the way of opening/closing the hood, and you can tighten the ribbon all you like and it doesnt touch the paint at all. It sits only centimeters above the hood. Somthing to consider making if you plan on doing a few weddings. I had one for my Falcon (XY) and although its design would be different to suit the BA the basic idea is the same

I took Russelw's advice and it worked well. Some of the other advice is also very good, but time was very short.

The protector came off with a hair dryer and left no marks whatsoever.

Thanks everyone for your help the thread with a picture of the cars is here
