Default Performance chip?

Is there such thing as a performance chip that i can just plug in and not need it to be tuned on a dyno? if so where can i get this from? i cant afford a flash tune and i dont have a dyno around this town

Im about to try a capa flash generic tune when my box arrives. Then its going on a dyno for a comparison, so Ill post my results afterwards. The Capa flash is on sale at KPM for $595 with Generic tunes included, which is a great price. There link is down the main forum page.

There is no advantage/disadvantage in a chip over a flash or vice versa. On an AU, the SCT Eliminator chip can deliver exactly the same tune as the SCT Flash tuner.

The only limitation to what you can do with an after market "edit" tune (regardless of chip or obdii flash) is firstly the capability of the actual EEC strategy by Ford, and secondly, the number of functions/tables/scalars that the tuning company knows the location of (in the EEC's memory).

Hrm interesting, i was planning on ditching my HP5 reprogrammable Chiptorque chip for an edit, seems there may not be any real advantage eh?

i just got off the phone frmo a tuning shop.. and they told me not to bother with a flash tuner... and i'd get better results from a chiptorque chip....

which is a really bugger.. coz i thought the flash tuner would have been better...
aparrently they are awesome for BA's.. but not so good for AU.. coz of the limits of the ecu apparently....

Beastzz: flashing is done via a CAPA flash tuner... which you plug into the OBD port under the dash of the car... and it basically over writes code in the stock ecu... much like using a 'chip'.. but just modify's the standard ecu code

i'm not sure about that.. but they can apparently be tuned to the individual car...

i still like the flexibility of the flash tuner.. and being able to switch between tunes if you wish...

Yes they can but its not a hindrance to the Edit tune at all. All the advantages of the edit takes away any disadvantage of not having live tuning.

Yeah but its still a disavantage. Once they come up with a flash tuner that can be tuned live, it will be a no brainer as to what to use. The main advantage of live tunning is its quicker (so cheaper) and should produce a slightly better result. All the same I'll be getting a flash tuner soon.

Perhaps that is due to them reselling the Chiptorque module and not reselling the Capa Flash tuner?

People say all sorts of things to collect your hard earned.

Hahahaha.. what a crock.
I've had a unichip in.. hated it. Had a chiptorque in for almost 2 years (tuned by Lachlan himself), was great but still had failings.

Had the edit for over a year now.. there is no question whats the best, the edit is.

Look at all the quick AU's now. Anything thats run a decent time in the last 12 months is running an edit. Unichip type C's are turning up on ebay at virtual give away prices and chiptorque are now selling the edit (branded as XFlash) anyhow.

For its time the chiptorque chip was an excellent bit of kit.. but the edit is better.

Oh, and for the record, to fit a Chiptorque J3 to an AU I6 the ecu has to be pulled apart and parts of it soldered and bridged. Its not a plug and play solution at all.

Just a quickie, what will be the best to get for an EFII XR6 with extractors, K&N Flat panel filter, Hi Flow cat to 2 3/4 exhaust, what can i use for mine with money not being an issue. Can someone PM me some details.

What you really need to ask is.... Which product has access to the functions/tables/scalars, of my particular EEC strategy, that are needed to tune my combination properly or more thoroughly.

SCT/CAPA support for local EEC strategies certainly seems to be better in that respect, but I dont really know for sure. It will be interesting to hear how people go with the Sniper product....it sounds pretty promising in this respect as well.

yeah.. i know.. but i've seen a cheap set of 18" XR rims.... but something doesn't seem right about them..

but a flash tuner for $595.. with 3 generic tunes seems like an offer too good to pass up...

With the 3 generic tunes,are they to suit three levels of mods or is there three levels of power,im guessing 3 levels of mods?

i beleive they are a valet tune.. limits car to 3000rpm... a 98 octane tune.. and a 95 octane tune

i'd say on a stock car.... any gains are going to be minimal... i've just ordered mine.. so i'll let you know once i've received it....
