Which bit specifically are you after? Some Ex Police pack cars come with a switch that turns the lights off (my ex NSW police car had such a switch). Other than that, you can turn the light on by using the switch the forms part of the headlight switch, and the standard setting is for the light to come on when the doors open, but there is no default off function. Installing a standard rocker switch in the light assembly would give you an off option though.

You can rewire the standard switch(the slider on the side) to do this but it will involve cutting of the switch loom, some rewiring and you will loose the high/low cluster light settings.

I'm sure it's possible because i just installed courtesy footwell lights (neons actually), that i can manually operate through the headlight switch slider. I did this because my cluster is LED's and the rest of the car's instrument lighting will be changed to LED's soon anyway, so the high/low light setting is of no use to me.
They way i have wired my lights is they will come on when ever the dome lamp comes on, and
Bottom position - Off - only come on when a door is open
Middle position - On - They are on but the dome light is not. they stay on regardless of ignition position. Dome light will come on when a door is opened
Top position - On and dome - This position works as normal

So it is possible. If you want a wiring diagram made i should be able to do, but what level (high/low) do you wanT the dash lights to be at?

Cheers

I put a small switch up above the seat belt in the creamy plastic part near the roof, I cut into the dome light wire to turn it off, turn it on and it works as normal. Turn it off and it won't come on at all even with doors open.

Sorry cant remember the wire colors now.

I realised the other day it'd be nice to have an OFF switch for it ... especially when the door ajar switch in the actuator fails ... and the interior light stays on ... or worse still flickers while driving at 5am to work in the morning.

I really was not in the mood for a disco at 5am.

At least pulling the CRT Lamp fuse didn't immobilise the ute .... I just didn't have interior lights for a day or so ... thank god.

I think the driver's door actuator shorts out in heavy rain for some reason ... and thinks the door is open.
