Stevensons Falls in the Otways, turn off just after Forrest. A nice camp ground with toilets, easy bush walk to the falls, good family environment. Will be busy in January, though.

I wouldnt even think of going on a holiday weekend though, go on a normal weekend when crowds are down. You have to watch the dirt road into the area from the Mansfield-Mt Buller Rd though, it can be dangerous with cars going both ways |

Marysville is nice, and big river national park is great for camping.
we used to go up there and go 4x4ing from one of the camps. our last visit years ago they had installed toilets at a few of the campgrounds. |

My favourite place to camp would be barma forest on the murray, been going there since a young tacker. Marysville is nice, we don't go there much though as it's too close to home.

I think the pick of places along the Murray to camp would be around Cobram, the huge sand bars there are incredible. Not sure how accessible they all are though, as I travelled through there in a canoe.

Maybe pics will help!
Mt St Leonard 7km out of Healesville. Can camp close to here with small rivers in a few spots. Kinglake, Yarra Valley, Black Spur all nearby... Murray, near Mildura. Just one of the many spots you can camp off the dirt tracks along the edge. (photo note - long exposure changing focus over time, plus 6x flashes) Howqua area - Fry's/Sheepyard |
