Yeah but remember Ford has the Turbos taking some of their V8 sales as well. Holden have only the V8 as their performance engine. It would be interesting to see the stats for Ford V8s AND Turbos combined vs Holden V8s.

Thats because Holden have a V8 with a great reputation (deservedly) and a V6 range with a poor reputation. Plus the VE range are still relatively new models on the market.
Fords V8 range hasn't got as good a reputation as far as power goes compared with Holden but they have an excellent 6 cylinder reputation. Plus the BF is old news now so sales will have dropped off until the Orion. So sales are skewed toward both brands known and perceived strengths.

Is the Orion really going to make a big difference? It's not a completely new car like the VE was and still bears a lot in common with previous models.

Does Ford need a completly new model to catch, and improve on VE? No, read the reviews, the BF isn't that far behind VE as it is now.

Probably has something to do with the release of the Utility. Most of their utes are SS V8s.

It wasn't a 183% surge in Holden V8'sit was a 183% surge in Caprice sales, and given the fact that the Fairlane and LTD are dead, and how much of a better package the Caprice is, it's understandable. And realise that Holden actually marketed the Caprice, even on TV... where is the marketing for the Fairlane or LTD... alot of people may not even know they existed in the current series (BA onwards). Anyway, how many Caprice's even sold in 2007? Well, working by 2006 figures, it sold less then 1000 units. So to sell 2000 units, as much as a pat on the back they deserve because the figures are up, it's really not that many more cars (ie. a 183% rise on 5000 cars might be a large figure).

As far as Fairlane/ LTD sales compared to Statesman/ Caprice sales go, I think Ford never really gave Fairlane a chance when BA came out. It really did simply look like a stretched Fairmont Ghia, Relatively no difference in design. Add that to the fact they really should have offered it with a Turbo 6. Could you imagine if FPV had of bought out an F6 LTD to battle with Grange, and then if they had of actually advertised it. Then we might not be talking about How the Fairlane is dead and the Caprice V8 has had a record year of sales.

I should have prefaced the original post, by saying I found it interesting that the V8 sales have increased as petrol prices and save the planet awareness have increased. It was not a call to arms in the brand battle.

Regarding their V6. Have any of the baggers here driven one? They are pretty capable if you ask me, which is what they're designed to do. The image building motor is the V8 which is also nice.

Its because they offer a Decent V8 in every model bar Omega..
The amount of Calais / Calais V / Caprices that are V8s is astranomical. Being a market taken up by company execs they can afford V8s, but dont want the look at me approach of SS / HSV / XR / FPV. Ford are going to lose big time and are by not offering a decent Fairmont Ghia V8 variant!

Its simple why v8 sales are up......... the economy is booming, there is a lot of young people out there earning good coin, especially young fellas working in mining and construction, and are willing to spend it on fast cars!!
I read an article about 12 months ago in teh Business Review Weekly magazine that the Mackay QLD HSV dealer was the no.1 HSV dealer in Australia!! Heaps of young blokes with $$$ in their pocket! |

Did any of you actually read the article?

2006 WL MY06 Sedan 4dr Auto 4sp 6.0i - $75,390 WL MY06 Sedan 4dr SA 5sp 3.6i - $70,690 2007 WM Sedan 4dr SA 6sp 6.0i - $70,990 WM Sedan 4dr SA 5sp 3.6i - $66,990 I can tell you exactly why the V8 caprice improved 183%. It's the same price as the 2006 V6! And it now has a 6-speed auto instead of the old 4-speed, whereas the V6 still has a 5-speed unit. I could twist those figures to read anything I wanted it to. For example... "Holden Sales Improve 183% Thanks To Price Slashing!" "New Holden V8 Better Value Than Old V6!" "Holden Sales Bettered By 183% Due To New Transmission!" You see how it works now?
