Default wrong tranny oil?

hey guys i replaced my transmission oil a few days ago with some oil that my bro had left over from when he did his. the oil is castrol epx 80w 90. changing gears now especially on cold mornings is rather bad and especially upshifting and downshifting into 2nd. 3rd and 5th are very sloppy and grate slightly when going into gear no matter how softly and smoothly i change. was just wonderig if i have used the wrong oil or is it just because its a t5?

thanks in advance

Krakey

Pretty sure a 75w/80 or 90 is recommended. I doubt it's doing it just because it's a "t5", if there were no sloppy changes or grating sounds beforehand it sounds like whatever you have put in the car doesn't like. I would replace it with some new stuff just in case, any chance this left over oil could have been contaminated?

I would check the spec on the oil as my AU S1 ute uses dexron 2/3 for the manual gearbox oil.

Ring mal Wood and he says the only thing he puts in T5's and tremecs these days is Transmax Z.
I took his advice and put it in the T5 I got for my sons ute and it drives like a bought one, great.

Be careful for a shock it is full synthetic with friction addatives and is priced accordingly but still how often do you change it so in the grand scheme of things still cheap as far as car costs go.

I used Penrite's Dextron II equivalent with the Lubrizol additive. Gearbox works great.

The Castrol oil you mentioned is what I use in my single spinner live axle diffs.

I used Tranzmax Z in the T5 of my old EL. I would not use anything else ever in a T5, the improvement just from an oil change was phenomenal.
