This video seems to be doing the email rounds:
This is a night vision movie from Iraq, showing real live action against Iraqi insurgents. The pictures were taken from an AC130 Specter gunship (plane) two and a half miles away. The guys in the picture are setting up a roadside bomb and planning to ambush an American convoy which followed a short while after the pictures were taken. They were setting up for the ambush and were pacing off the distance from the bomb to where the convoy was to pass by. http://www.putfile.com/media.php?n=IraqiNight

Isn't the AC130 basically a Hercules plane with guns? How was it able to stay still for so long? It must have been a Helicopter instead I think.

Really amazing footage and display of weaponary whether it be recent or a couple of years old. Loved the "Smoke 'em!"
The mood that I'm in at the moment after the bombings in London, I'm all for "Shoot them all and let god sort it out!" Disclaimer: Yes I do know that Iraq has nothing to do with the bomings in London.

The AC130 Spectre is an excellent weapons platform, armed with miniguns and a howitzer it can deliver a frightening amount of firepower onto a target, about 4 times that of your average apache gunship. Its also a very flexible platform and can be equipped with monitoring equipment mounted on pods, including IR imaging like seen in the video. The plane moves, but the IR Imagers are moveable and can lock onto a point on the ground while the plane moves. Depnding on the system, it can have movement of up to 360 degrees on the horitzontal, so it can fully rotate while the aircraft stays in its pattern or racetrack. This enables the aircraft to stay in safe zones(or zones of less threat) while monitoring areas outside of that zone where hostiles may be operating.
