Default Melbourne Cup 2008 - how did you go?

I am running the sweeps at work so thought I would create the thread here too.

Good luck and, and when its all said and done (and run), let us all know how you go so we can help celebrate your gain, or commiserate your pain.

Ripping it up put $20 eachway on C'Est La Guerre (or whatever it is).

Paid $8 for the 3rd place . My trifecta was completely shot up though.

2nd the call for last place - anyone know?

Trying to finalise my payouts (none to me)

I dropped about $25 all up. Nothing big - a bit of fun!

I ran the sweeps here at work. I found someone who had a whole stack of 5c pieces that I would use to give to the people who got the horse who came last - Honolulu.
Damn it, I got the horse that came last and $2 in shrapnel.

Bauer gave me a coupla hundred on the Geelong Cup, betting on Francesca Cumani. Thought I'd roll $100 back on Bauer for a place, so pretty happy here.

Must be a trend. I ran our sweeps and got my $5 back from that sweep.

Honalulu came 21st but 1 horse pulled a dnf (Was skaifey riding it?) I had 50 each way on Bauer. I'm happy I won money but dissapointed that it lost by the width of a bees dick. I thought it was home with 100 to run.

This has been a decent one for me .... I picked it on name and numbers. Last 2 years I picked Makybe Diva ... so did OK on those years as well.

Bauer (my surname) ... and Number 12 in the 7th race ... my B'day is 12th of July.

I put $40 each way on it ... had the race been another 50 metres I would have had a decent payout.

But overall I put in $80 and came back with $276.

Tadka ... what were the starting odds for Bauer???? That's one thing I missed actually .... I would have brought home a decent amount if it did win.

Bauer was about $23. I usually put 50 E/W on the Geelong cup winner but this year I had a really strong feeling. So close!!

Diva was 04-06 too just to be pedantic

Hey .. $106 from $4 overall ... that's a decent margin.
Shame he didn't have $10 EW on it though.

Yeah not too bad. I only had a 50c unit but got about $950 and $5 on the quinella that paid $60. Walked out with about $1400 which is pretty good for 10 minutes work. I picked up the Melbourne cup trifecta in 1999 that paid about $18k (I got a bit over $10k for 50c unit and I had quin and exacta too) It was my first ever bet. got me hooked nice and young.
