Special Editions seem to be the flavour of the month with Holden joining Honda, Toyota and Mazda with special editions announced today.

GM Holden is set to release two new special edition models to increase Commodore sales in two different segments.

Firstly the SS V-Series Special Edition sedan, Sportwagon and Ute will get Holden’s styling treatments with new aggressive twin nostril front fascia with unique lower splitter and twin letter-box hood scoops. SS-V special edition sedans will also get a decklid spoiler and chrome highlights.

The new Special Edition Commodores will be available in three colours – Phantom black, Red Hot and Voodoo blue and will cost the same as the standard SS V-Series models.

-VE Ute SS V-Series Special Edition (man) $47,490 RRP
-VE Commodore sedan SS V-Series Special Edition (man) $55,290 RRP
-VE Sportwagon SS V-Series Special Edition (man) $57,290 RRP
-Six-speed automatic transmission +$2,000 RRP
Ute fans will be delighted to know the SS V-Series Special Edition Ute will be unveiled at tomorrow’s Deni Ute Muster.

no its left over parts due to the downsizing of australian exports of the pontiac gto range.

with GM in financial trouble, they are trying to make limited edition cars out of stock already produced.

much like all other car make brands that are bringing out limitied edition models, all they are is dressed up left over stock to get rid of everything before a new model is brought out.

I don't know if it is the angle of the photos or what but they atcually look quite a bit worse than the pontiac cars the atcual parts came from.

Also, where is the holden badge? Too stingy to get a smaller badge made up that would fit on the centre bit where the pontiac badge used to be??

Call me a anti-cynic, but I reckon it might look ok in the flesh. Least it'll stand out from the now not so standout SS fleet.....and give it greater differentiation from the cooking models.

Slap me if you like but I actually like the Pontiac nose. Better than the Holden grill; seems to go better with the over the top wheel arch flares.

Good on Holden for not wasting left over parts from the G8, thanks to there American counterparts. I actually think it looks quite good, and at least its not wasting anymore local money. Some people are so one-eyed when it comes to ford/holden branding they cant see the forest for the trees.

V6 bore & stroke might be local but design is saab an overseas motor, the barra is a totally home grown product, not in the same category.

Not that it matters but I thought the Holden V6 was a global GM engine to be used globally in a range of different brands, not any 1 particular GM brand. There are several different stroke and head configurations

Irrelevant to the topic though

Anyway I actually quite like the G8 nose compared to the regular VE one. Like someone else said atleast the parts aren't going to waste.

So what you are saying is that not one single part of its castings is remotely similar to any overseas product?

correct the first import (vauxhall) was a 90* V6. 3.2ltr
all holden's casting are 60* V6.

however all heads are interchangable as per GM product.

still not a fan, looks too fussy at the front, and never really liked the big Hilux flares(but thats just me), and surely bringing out another cosmetic "speshal" every second week will do nothing for resale values, sell at any cost?.
