Jeep Grand Cherokee Reliability
Scorecard Overall: 8.2 Performance: 8.6 Exterior: 8.3 Interior: 8.7 Safety: 9.2 Reliability: How we calculate scores Research analyzed for this review Pros and Cons Near-luxury levels of interior comfort Legendary off-road capabilities Plenty of rear-seat space Poor fuel economy High base price Dated five-speed transmission Best Price Program The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliability score shown is the Predicted Reliability rating provided by J.D. Power and Associates. The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee is covered by a three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty, which includes towing assistance, and a five-year/100,000-mile warranty. That’s better than Ford’s five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty and is the same as Chevrolet’s powertrain warranty. http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com...e/Reliability/

I don't care what JD Powers says. That being said Jeeps have been very reliable since they partnered with Mercedes on the previous generation. My dad has the previous GC with 3.0 CRD (upon my recommendation), he has been very happy with it. So happy that he wants to get the new one. I told him he may as well keep his until the 8 speed version comes out. He gets people telling him how unreliable his vehicle is and is constantly correcting them.

I have been driving a 2012 Dodge Journey for the past 2 weeks, 200km a day and it has been fantastic, as much as I would like to I cannot fault it. It isn't there to replace the Focus, I only have it for a few weeks.

As for waving, people used to do that when I had my WRX. I think it's weird, just because I drive the same car as them, why should I wave? It's not just a jeep thing ;)

But today - Hyundai and Subaru ( and definitely KIA ) make some very interesting and quirky cars with a lot more value and much better warranties and after sales support. In this context - it makes buying a Falcon a more mundane and boring purchase........ Doesn't mean the car aint any good - its just getting a bit old hat compared to the newer offerings from Global platforms.

A model of car can't be all things to everyone. But it needs to be designed in a way that it appeals to the majority of it's target market, as well as a small amount of potential buyers in different market segments (hoping they change over).

I have said it before and i'll say it again Ford need to loose the "Family" car image and make there preformence cars more like a preformrnce car and not something that needs 10k of work done to it.
As for Ford V Holden thats alway going to be there as there is noway Ford or Holden could ever compete with the real prefomence car of this world.

BUT - You've managed to spell Performance incorrectly 3 times, and each time it's spelt differently!?! You will find that 'Family' cars sell more than 'Performance' cars, and if they need volume sales that won't be found in performance cars.

The 5 man & 4 auto are pretty much dead ... aren't they ? and I believe one car can make a lot of people happy. Fuel saver, random rev-head, big 6 turbo, V8 nutter .... Taxis .... company car .... Family wagon/ hot wagon .... Holden does it, sales is good ... why wouldn't work with ford ??? |

Just getting back to the war for a minute, according to official media releases, the Americans sent more than 33,000 jeeps to the Soviet Union from 1941 to 1944.
And from that awesome site Howstuffworks:- In his book, Lend-Lease, Weapon for Victory, Lend-Lease administrator Edward R. Stettinius Jr., later to be Franklin D. Roosevelt's secretary of state, relates the following story: "The Russians early learned the value of our jeeps...They had asked for motorcycle sidecars, but as I wrote Ambassador Litvinov late in January 1942, our own Army was using jeeps almost entirely instead of motorcycle sidecars...The Russians decided to try the jeeps and soon found that our Army had good reason to rely on them...They worked so well in the mire and rough going on the Russian roads that the Red Army quickly asked for more. Since then we have shipped thousands of them to Russia. "Last year when an Associated Press correspondent visited a Soviet artillery regiment on the central front, he was driven in a jeep through deep mud and across rough fields to the regimental headquarters. Between jounces he turned to the Red Army driver and asked him how he liked the car. The driver answered with one word: "'Zamechatelno!' That is the Russian equivalent for 'swell!'" Which makes me think just how well the Territory would have fared in the frozen wastes of Siberia. Having said that, I can see real need for a vehicle with a military pedigree to nip into those rare car parking spaces just outside Fitness First. Onwards Soccer mums, go forth and reclaim the motherland for the glorious Marshall Stalin. |

There is a good reason why aussie coupes only pop up every now and then, and a good reason why Holden dropped the statesmen... Think about it, holden don't have there AWD setup anymore do they, nor a coupe. And, i wouldnt say Holdens sales are anymore better then Fords.

My handling comment was in reference to "rock hopping". Jeep make only SUV's so you'd hope that they work good offroad. Ford on the other hand makes predominantly road cars. And no I don't compare all handling to the WRX. I like my FG better as an all round car than my WRX and I'm real happy I sold my WRX after 12 year ownership. My WRX was fun at the time but not any longer. The XR handles just fine but can't rockjump like a Jeep I guess. Quote:
That's just it, I would never buy a Jeep. I want a sedan not a 4WD to drive in Suburbia.
