Hi guys,
Does anyone know the correct auger size to get for a post hole digger to use for putting in the Steel H sections for a sleeper retaining wall? Is it 250mm?

In Qld. the council has to OK plans for retaining walls over certain height and I think the footing dimensions would be on the plans, don't know about Vic.

It also depends on the size of the post.

300 mm or larger if it requires better footing .. Back filled with blue stone and concrete .. I would lean hole & pole 5*+ towards bank ..
Edit I would go 50mm above H section.. I thought it was a 250mm pipe ..

450mm auger for a retaining wall is what to use mate. Order some concrete from your chosen concrete mob, or if you don't need that much, buy some readimix bags (NOT quickset - it's rubbish) which are structural rated, and enjoy mixing them yourself.

In Victoria anything over 600mm high requires an engineer, seriously.

Hi Guys,
How far do you think I can space the posts? i was told that i can use 1.8m 75mm sleepers with the H posts and it should be fine. Does this sound right?

You need to give us some more information so we're not second guessing.
Height, length, H section, soil... |

What sort of sleepers are you using? I assume timber. I used concrete sleepers with H beams to construct retaining walls at my new house, 1.8 was fine for them- but they have reinforced rods running through the sleepers. I think 1.8 spacing is to much for timber as they bow,

Imo err on the side of caution. Put uprights at the halfway mark as well. Especially if the land behind slopes upwards and actually puts pressure on the sleepers. They will bow eventually, just through continual weather exposure, over engineer it for longevity
