They had 2 XR8's there, a blue one that was used as the drive car and the gold one that was the one they used for filming. There was also a Gold XR6T you could go for a drive in, I did XR8 and XR6T back to back and I can guarantee you the XR8 is MUCH quicker than the turbo.

I agree with you on this but it's one of those things that when you see the car it doesn't look "bad". Interestingly enough none of them have the badges on the doors anymore - only front and rear.

Haha definitely, wasn't expecting him to push into third... overshooting the 100m mark. I'm convinced of the toughness of the running gear after what the blue car was put through for 6 hours straight, probably a 100 runs with 5 onboard in the heat...

If they are anything like the rest of the pilot build cars they are filled with 91 ron, as Broadmeadows only has standard unleaded at the pump, which must take a fair slug of power out.

Thank you so much, great work and a real nostalgia trip. As a newborn came home from hospital in an XP, learnt to drive in an XW, always have a spot for XE Ghia ESP's, still shake my head when I think I sold my FG G6ET and love the look of the new FG-X, an XR8 or G6ET thanks.

You know what, that was my first thought as well. Imagine 1 tiny slip up!! Even at rally racing they don't get that close.

There is an element of risk in every thing we do. With a driver with the qualities of Frosty and the slow speeds at which he was driving, the chances of anything happening were next to buggar all. Plus it was clearly stated that if ya uncomfortable then to step back away and see the person who was incharge of ya group. I for one didn't feel as if I was in any danger at all.

One thing to remember that is We all wait at the side of the road as cars drive by. Push bike riders and people also walk into and away from traffic with cars traveling at 40 to 100 km + speeds. Does this pass all health and safety checks? I see this as 10 + times more dangerous but no jumping up and down about health and safety there.

Good on Ford for allowing Falcon Fanatics to be apart of an Ad and to meet Frosty, Chaz, Moffart and some of the Ford Engineers. The patience of those blokes was impeccable. Every where Frosty went he was surrounded by falcon Fanatics wanting a photo etc, his attitude and conversations he had with fans was a credit to him and what a great ambassador he is for Ford and FPR. In fact it was a great time to meet and greet everyone.

Well done Ford. It will be interesting to see the final result of the filming.

Later on I was standing head on at him at the bend with Frosty approaching straight at me after his initial acceleration from the start. I was a bit concerned before the first run when I was standing there, but watching him carefully he was in fact quite conservative with his braking, even in his faster runs. Subsequent runs I was very relaxed. It was obvious he knew exactly what he was doing, had full control in braking and turning, and was not pushing it too much at all even though at very minute times the tyres did start working. A precise driver at work.

Comparing it to standing at a pedestrian crossing with cars wizzing by, I did feel much safer with Frosty's driving.

I'm not arguing about the everyday risks we all take. But most businesses in Australia are (or claim to be) dead against introducing new ones and it is a fact that he could've messed up the first run and you'd be typing from hospital. I'm glad it didn't happen but it could've.

That's why I'm surprised it was cleared to go ahead and surprised he even wanted to do it. We all make mistakes - even Frosty.

Why think about what could of happened? I have health and life insurance...I'm gonna live my life.
Ford Australia, Ford International and Avalon Airport OH&S would have signed off on it. How? Who cares?
I was standing on a corner and could see and hear it working but never got worried cause of the huge amount of skill of the driver and I could see that even though it was working, it was nowhere near the edge. He could have pushed that beast a lot further, but he was holding back from the limit.
I never once felt like any of us was in danger.
