Default Diesel fuel filter renewal

These notes on changing the diesel fuel filter might be useful to someone. They apply to cars with the filter underneath and at the rear. The priming pump could be a hand operated rubber bulb or a vacuum tester fitted with a bottle to prevent fuel entering, which worked best for me.

Raise the vehicle.
Remove the electrical connector from the filter housing.
Remove fuel inlet 10mm quick release connector and insert blanking plug into the female QR connector.
Remove fuel outlet 12mm quick release connector and insert blanking plug into the female QR connector.
Drain diesel from filter housing using the drain plug (18mm spanner). 500ml should drain.
Remove the filter housing from the bracket on the vehicle and replace filter element.
Alternatively, remove the filter housing complete with bracket and replace filter element.
Install the filter housing to the bracket on the vehicle.
Connect the 10mm female outlet from the fuel tank to the inlet of a priming pump.
Connect the 12mm male outlet from the filter to suitable container via tubing.
Connect the outlet of a priming pump via tubing to the 10mm inlet on the filter housing.
Prime the filter with diesel fuel until fuel flows at the 12mm outlet.
Install the fuel line connectors to the filter housing.
Install the electrical connector.
Return unused clean diesel to the tank using the Ford adapter funnel.

Edited version, couldn't edit original due to time limit imposed by system.

These notes on changing the diesel fuel filter might be useful. They are notes I made for my own use, in case I forget next time. The notes apply to cars with the filter underneath and at the rear. The priming pump may be a hand operated rubber bulb, which works best by pressure, or a hand operated vacuum tester, which works best by vacuum. The idea is to make sure the car starts normally afterwards, by ensuring air does not enter the fuel system. The main difficulty I found was getting the right size plugs for the fuel lines. Screwed up glad wrap or similar might work, but I used custom made plugs, 9.9mm and 11.7mm in diameter for the 10mm and 12mm size fuel connectors. If the lines aren't plugged there is a possibility of fuel draining out, which equates to air getting in which means the engine may not start normally, as may be seen on certain Youtube videos.
Any corrections most welcome.

Raise the vehicle.
Remove the electrical connector from the filter housing.
Remove fuel inlet 10mm quick release connector and insert blanking plug into the 10mm female QR connector.
Remove fuel outlet 12mm quick release connector and insert blanking plug into the 12mm female QR connector.

Drain diesel from filter housing using the drain plug (18mm spanner). 500ml should drain.
Remove the filter housing from the bracket on the vehicle and replace filter element.
Alternatively, remove the filter housing complete with bracket and replace filter element.
After replacing the filter install the filter housing/housing and bracket to the vehicle.

When using a rubber bulb primer:
Connect the 10mm female outlet from the fuel tank to the inlet of the priming bulb.
Connect the outlet of the priming bulb to the 10mm inlet spigot of the filter housing.
Connect the 12mm male outlet from the filter to suitable waste container via tubing.
Prime the filter with diesel fuel until fuel flows at the 12mm outlet into the waste container.

Alternatively, a hand operated vacuum tester with a bottle may be used as shown in the attached photo. In this case, the 10mm female fuel tank outlet is connected to the 10mm filter housing inlet spigot while fuel is drawn from the 12mm male outlet on the filter housing with the vacuum pump via a waste bottle until fuel begins to flow into the waste bottle.

When this is done install the fuel line connectors back to the filter housing.
Install the electrical connector.
Return excess diesel to the tank using the Ford adapter funnel.
