MC Mondeo Tdci -misfire?

Drove from Syd back to Canberra. First set of lights the engine felt lumpy.
Stopped at 2 more sets and definitely something wrong.
Got home, put car in Park, when I got out of the vehicle it was as if I could smell burning, the engine was seeming to misfire, the fan was running strongly.
When I revved the engine it seemed to smooth out, but at low rev's it definitely seemed to be misfiring.
The coolant temp was normal, smack bang in the middle of the range.
Fuel economy seemed normal for the run, power didn't seem down- but then it sits on 2.2k rpm all the way along the Hume Fwy.

Any guesses?
I will have to locate a mechanic - don't want to go to Ford after the tranny disaster (it still whines accelerating or engine braking)- but hate going in blind.

Went out and started it this morning.
Seems fine.
Perfectly happy at idle.
Will go for drive a little later.

Sounds like a regen to me. The telltale would have been the instantaneous fuel consumption when you were stationary. Normally idling will read around 1.1L/hr (with a/c on), while undergoing a regen it will be well higher. That and the raging fan and generally noisy idle as heard from outside the car.

I've seldom noticed when my car does a regen, but the one time I was sure of it was on a trip when I arrived at a rest stop and noticed the car at idle sounded loud from outside, and the consumption was up as above.
On one other occasion in Sydney I felt the car seemed rough when stopped and accelerating from traffic lights, and in hindsight I think that could've been a regen in progress.

I wish Ford had fitted an indicator of some kind to take the guesswork out.

I've had a number of regens happen after long motorway trips. I expect the engine load at a constant 110 km/h isn't enough to keep the DPF clean.

Have you the facility to scan for error codes?

That may point you in the right direction.

At least you can see where the dpf levels are at, i know mine burns every 120-150 km highway driving.

it was fine over the weekend around Canberra.
Came up to Sydney last night. First couple of lights near Bankstown was doing it again. Cleared up by the time I got to Newport. Hoping it is a regen and not heat (hot day/engine) related.
Haven't noticed it (the rough idle) ever before.
Ah well, getting my timing belt changed in the next few weeks, will get them to have a sniff around. Particularly around the DPF injector, make sure its functioning properly.

When I had issues with my DPF fuel vaporiser, the only indication was the malfunction warning and then error codes obtained using Forscan. Apart from that the car drove as normal.

If your timing belt is due maybe it is a timing issue (stretched belt maybe??) but unlikely?
