Well done woosha, i saw that run and it looked damn quick.

and jonbays, my last run (and fastest) shows 2.3C degrees, and it sure felt like it too! : at what point would it become too cold to race i wonder?

wonder whether I'd get a couple of extra tenths with 6 degrees cooler ambient temp?
I'll have to go up ford nationals irrespective of clutch woes. Damn you whoosh I might not beat you but I'll definitely try to fly the stock flag high!

13.7 is impressive Whoosha. Fluffy dice should help you get to 13.6. Hang it from the Rearview

Last time out when he ran his 14.0? it had 195 ish at the ground.
It has had new plugs and leads since then and it noticably picked up a little but it has not been dynoed.

Very cold temps can be counter productive as well. A cold track is less grippy, and dew on the track makes it more difficult to get good traction. I think the FF Nats are going to be a day event in September, so those conditions will be ideal.

What's the aim now Whoosha, 13.5?

Unfortunately, I doubt it would make that much difference xd5.8l / Jonbays.
On Saturday i ran 14.70 when it was 13.3 deg and 14.72 when it was 2.1 deg.
MPH was 95 for 6 of 9 runs with no speed recorded on 2 runs and 93 on the other

Well done Woosha. I love Windsors too!

Well I think it does! Its not the only factor though for sure but it helps

Colder air is more dense and more oxygen is more power no question.

How much difference well check the quarter mile calc sites and see the difference pressure and temp will make.

Not wanting this thread to get off the topic of congratulating Woosha but...

I am well and truly aware of the theory jonbays, however i have 9 time slips here saying you wont knock 1/2 a second of your time between 13deg and 2deg.

Still, only one way to find out. Hope you can get down here some time and show us, just as I have every intention of coming up to WSID soon.

Now your talking

It's better to look at the relative altitude when considering the affect weather has on performance at the track. Only problem is I can't remember how to calculate it....anyone else here know?

A good friend of mine ran a 15.1 with a vn bt1 v8, then removed his headlight
and ran a 14.6.....thats just getting more air same temp.
If you can get more air at a colder temp you will get the same gains, with
out removing headlights.

Also congrats woosha on the time, what clutch have you got in there and
what width and profile tyre were you running with.

approx 200rwkw is pretty awesome for the limited mods.... my 200spec auto only made 157 stock, apart from the edit and K&N...hopefully my soon to be fitted tri-Ys and exhaust will help me out some what, although she wont be pushing 200 at the treads,or 13's down the 1/4.... sometimes i wish i could be content with a slow car

Correct cold air is more dense but the air at heathcote was pretty high humidity, the more moisture in the air, the less oxygen which will rob horsepower

It is a standard XR8 220kw Manual.
It has a G&D Airbox and runs a Uni chip, no edit on this car.
standard headers with a couple of hot dogs to cut the noise.

Hmm Humidity at 2 degrees or 6 degrees what was it! Humidity and temp are related. Relative humidity OK but it can't have been very humid at that temp this side of fog!

We should move this temp vs humidity vs ETs stuff to a seperate thread...

In the end jonbays, you can 'what if' all you like, but you'll never never know if you never never go!

I'm still shocked by the power figures you guys are getting down there. Just under 200rwkw from a internally stock AU 220 xr8 is amazing. And its backed up by the MPH on your slips as well. Not hard to tell who got the "wednesday" motor. Congrats on the time.
