Right then.
Let's say I got hold of a set of rocker covers for my Windsor and wanted to get tham painted up. What is the best wat to go about it and what is involved in removing the old ones/replacing them, as far as gaskets, etc goes? This is a new hobby for me, I'm not too familiar with this sort of stuff, to say the least. Cheers. |

I've got a set already painted in Black wrinkle/crinkle finish. Yours for $100 including postage.
Not too hard to swap them over - just a matter of undoing the 1/2 dozen or so bolts, and I just used the same gasket. Can't remember whether I need to remove the intake manifold, but I'm guessing I did.

You'll have to remove your upper intake manifold to remove the rocker covers. It's pretty obvious what you'll need to do as you go along. If you are using cork gaskets then you'l need to clean the gasket residue of both the rocker covers and the head surface (be careful to keep gasket bits out of the heads) before fitting new ones. If you're using the metal and rubber resuable ones then no problems.
Painting is easy enough. Make sure they are well cleaned of grease etc, give them a light sand with wet/dry paper, another good wash and then paint the colour of your choice. It is possible to use most paints as the covers don't get that hot however engine paint is recommended as it will cure to a tougher finish. Better if you can pick up a spare set to prepare beforehand and then just change them over in one go rather than have your car off the road while doing your covers up. It just so happens there's a cheap set on eBay at the moment, hehe - click here. |
