hi,
i just bought my first car i am a learner, and it an AU 99' and it had a bad battery so i bought a new one, now it drives well. I only drive it once a week with my instructor. I get my p's in vic this september, so i was just wondering is there anything i need to do to the car and its battery, to keep it in good condition? like do i need to warm up the car every couple of days or will just driving once a week be enough. And what should i buy if i want to do my own oil changes, how can i learn to do that, is there a book or something, i cant ask any relatives for help. And when do you know when you need something like a transmission service? Thank you in advance. |

welcome to the family its a good idea to give your car a start up every few days if your not using it this will help to keep it charged they do tend to drain a little all the time
to do your own oil changes you will need few basic tools a good set of ramps so you can get under your car most of the big spare part auto shops have srevice & how to books for sale if it becomes to hard a task just aske here Cheers Whoosha

You can get what is called a battery isolating switch. This basically turns off the battery off, although, on newer cars such as the AU, I don't recommend it as it will reset your ECU, and it may idle rough, or stall... etc... Just turn your car over for a few mins every few days, and keep the waters topped up...

I think you need to do more than just start it up ... it is best to run it around the block at least ... give the alternator a chance to charge the battery up a bit.

INOX make a battery additive (supercheap etc sell it). It helps stop internal corrrosion etc & will add life to your battery. If put in when your battery is new they gurantee to extend your warranty. All the best with it, a nice vehicle for your first car!
