Default vct and powerdyne info.

Im looking at a 99 au futura in a car yard. The engine has the red cover
and the vct intec white writing on it.
It looks identical 2 other vct engines i have seen. The car yard says they dont know the cars history.

Anybody know if the vct was an option on all falcons or only the xr6?

Also the car has powerdyne induction. When i drove it with light exceleration, it seemed my el futura had more power.
But when i gave it some revs, the thing had probably 25-30% more power than my el.
Does that sound about right for this type of charger?
Its not intercoled, and i dont think it has water injection. The cars done 150k
so i dought if the engine was blown up and replaced with the red vct.

Any ideas how this thing will be on deuce?Since the belt that runs the blower
is connected 2 the crank shaft,i suppose having one would be like having your air conditioner on full time.
And maybe thats why at low revs my el is more responsive.

Thanks 2 anyone who does respond.

Ps im tossing up between the au and a 185i statesman.I only like the statesman because the seats are the most comfy iv ever sat in.
Iv had one before, but the seats were different.
But the thing got smashed along with me.And it totally **** me off when i got beat by 4 and 6 cylinder cars.
Dont know weather i should say this but the el was my first ford.
All my other cars were 5.0 efi.
Never owned a v6 and never will. There 2 harsh and jerky.I was very surprised by the smoothness and power of my el,its almost equel 2 the V8s
i have owned.
Purchasing the el is the best thing i ever did.It opened my eyes 2 just what a good car ford make.
Go ford.

One more thing, all my other cars have had lsd,and i liked the way the rear would lose traction and hang out.
With the el and the au this doesnt happen, which isnt a bad thing since its not as dangerous.
Thats what i dont understand about lsd, isnt it meant 2 give you more traction?
To me it seems like it gives you less, and gives the rear a mind of its own.

Anyway as you can see i dont know much about cars,so any help would be appretiated.

I believe the I6 vct engine was only available in AU Fairmont Ghia, XR6 vct & also Fairlane
Looks like it might be a transplant
Cheers

Pics of the engine bay??
powerdyne induction??? I presume you mean supercharged???
Would need to see pics.

The rocker cover could have been swapped over for looks ... that's about all though ... going on what you have said.

No, it couldnt have been swapped over if it is the VCT rocker cover. They are different shapes at the front.

pics would help sort this out.

In the AU only XR6 and fairmont Ghia and Fairlanes have the VCT engine.

It would be an easy engine swap but you would need the Ghia ECU and engine bay wiring to make the VCT work properly. Not hard just fiddly.

The powerdyne is a supercharger and it should make an AU go really well so it sounds a bit poor. The old 5L Holdens were only 165kw and the 157kw ford was well up to them so no surprise there. The 185kw was an option and it wasn't that great.

LSD is more dangerous in the wet as it will spin both wheels and you will lose ALL rear traction. Of course it takes more power and or acceleration to break traction in the first place though.

Along with the VCT question. If the previous owner had for some reason blown the last engine up, I dont know if id bother putting in a VCT I6. Especially for all the work to get it done. I dunno seems like a hassle to me.

U sure the cover couldnt just be changed?

the cover can't be changed because the vct has the cam timing sensor at the front of the motor instead of the U shaped bit that the normal intec rocker cover has

Agreed that's a definite NO won't fit ever without enormous stuffing around and custom fabrication.

Thanks for the info guys,i might leave the supercharged au where it is,or see if they still have it in a few weeks time and make a stupid offer on it.
You never know, modified cars arnt easy 2 sell.
I didnt like how the power came on high in the rev range, and not down low where you use it most.
It did hit 140 though,in no time, and that was up a steep hill. And it woulde be good 2 own something rare. Not many blown fords around compared 2 the v6.

Found an imaculate au series 2,sports interior, cruise control,(man i like how ford put cruise on the steering wheel.)spoilers, power windows, done 180k
and only $5500.
Thats a bargain.
Ill let you guys know what i settle on.The hsv is off the agenda. 2 many people want 2 drag you.And in my other 185i hsvs i got my **** whipped to many times.
I think i might be fully converting 2 the blue oval.
